Marvel movies aren’t even superhero movies anymore. Some of them have like a hero’s journey but they don’t have that vibe of like the early Spider-Man movies or x men or the dark knight or whatever. They all rely on this background knowledge and fanfare of the characters and it’s all about who and what they can fit into one movie. The music industry has behaved in a similar way the past few years too. It’s really cheap idek how to describe it other than like algorithmic pastiche of nostalgia and marketing. Even a24 sells merch. Do people just not like stories anymore and do people just find information itself entertaining. Like it’s about the thought of all 3 spider men in a movie together that sells a movie and makes it a live of the year. Just a gimmick that’s accomplished by playing talent to appear in something.
They stopped being superhero movies right around the end of Phase 1. From that point forward, they've been Blockbusters. While the term has long been used to describe any film that is exceptionally popular and makes a lot of money, I think there's a strong argument to be made that it is a genre of its own now. Especially with the rise of formulaic films created by the major studios that wear the veneer of various genres but are ultimately meticulously designed to have broad appeal in an effort to make as much money as possible.
