Part of being anti-racist is checking yourself when you say something or have a thought that's racist, even if nobody's around. If you give yourself a free pass on that shit in any part of your life, you'll never really be able to move stop it. It's a legitimate slippery slope.
"Violence is never the answer" is something you tell children because they do not yet have the capacity to understand the nuances of how and why violence can be a useful tool. Violence is one of the greatest tools of change that humanity has. It has done more to shape this world - for better or worse - than anything else in history. Violence can destroy and degrade, but it can also be salvation and lead people out of suffering. The problem is not violence, but rather how and why it is wielded. When used against those who oppress others, violence is a righteous act that can provide freedom and justice.
Violence should not be the first option, but it should not be off limits either. If talking it out fails to stop the violence you face, then violence in return is a justifiable response.
If you know anything about the history of racism (or current racist bullshit) in your city, you should go add a section about it to the Wikipedia page for your city. Too many people think racism doesn’t happen in their city and it needs to be known that they are wrong.
Racism is a traditional american value.
I fucking hate nerds and nerd culture. The community is filled with so many whiny, man-children that find joy in being as offensive as humanly possible just because they like making others uncomfortable. Grow. The. Fuck. Up. How is saying racist, sexist, bigoted shit funny? I don't use public chats when gaming because of this shit. I don't hang out in nerd spaces because of it either. All I want is to be able to enjoy nerdy shit without having to associate with asshole racists that claim it's all a joke and that I'm being too sensitive for daring to call them out on their toxicity.
And I know that there are enclaves in nerd culture that are free of this, but the culture as a whole is extremely toxic and the good places within it are difficult to find.

Whenever a white person tries to say something isn’t racist by citing their “black friends” ask them to tag those friends in the post.
Grandma, I love you, but I will not hesitate to shit on your conservative and racist views. Especially if you post on my timeline with them.

Supergirl really isn’t fucking around this season.
Blomkamp wasn’t even kinda fucking subtle with his parallels of racism in Elysium and modern day US.
I feel for those that have had businesses destroyed tonight, but that's what insurance is for. Insurance isn't bringing back Freddie Gray. Or Darrien Hunt. Or Tamir Rice. Or Rekia Boyd. Or Mike Brown. Or the thousands of other black men, women, and children that have been slaughtered by the police.
So we're clear, I support riots and violent protests against institutions that hold all the power and refuse to listen. If the police had chosen to sit down and have a real discussion about what kind of changes need to be enacted to end the decades long oppression through incarceration and police brutality, then we wouldn't be seeing riots like the one today. The police brought it on themselves when they showed up to peaceful protests dressed for war.
If they won't listen, use any means necessary to make them.
Yeah, I really could've done without the Native American background for Jane Krakowski's character on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. They could've used any storyline they wanted, but they got another white woman to pretend to be Native American.
When I was growing up, I remember learning about the Civil Rights movement and being told it had been successful in gaining rights for black Americans. I grew up with Urkel and the Huxtables and other black role models on tv. I grew up in a house that treated everyone with kindness, no matter what. I grew up being taught that racism was something that happened either a long time ago or in hushed tones between old people that never learned better.
I was wrong. So fucking wrong. I just never saw it because I was protected by the color of my skin. But I see it now. And I won't sit quietly and let it continue.
On articles about Tamir Rice, I keep seeing people posting variations of "He was waving a (toy) gun around and pointing it at people, what did he expect?"
Not to be fucking killed, that's for damn sure. Sure, pointing a toy gun at people isn't the brightest thing for anyone to do, but if he was a white kid the cops probably would've laughed and told him to knock that shit out before sending him on his way. Instead, he's dead and didn't get the chance to grow up.
Violence can be used to enact change. Our country was founded on that principle. If you want to vilify the people that riot tonight, remember that our founding fathers did the same thing when faced with iniquity. And they weren't being killed for existing.
Disgusted to be American tonight.
