Dark Side of the Moon is always wild to listen to while high and it starts at the very beginning of the album. Speak to Me starts out so quietly and takes so long to build up that it's really easy to forget you still have music on. And then it sneaks up on you out of nowhere.
Safe as Milk is finally on Spotify. No Trout Mask Replica yet, but at least I can get more Captain Beefheart in my life.
This is, hands down, the weirdest cover I have ever heard in my entire life. Disco was basically the polar opposite of psychedelic rock, but the Scissor Sisters have somehow managed to combine the two into an odd, but strangely convincing cover. I don't understand how it works, but it does.
I’m still incredibly proud of the fact that on one of my playlists, I was able to seamlessly transition from technical death metal (Gojira) to progressive rock (Pink Floyd). It’s so seamless that I know it’s coming and have listened to the playlist 100+ times, yet I still can’t tell when the songs switch.
It's this kind of night. I feel like this album gets overlooked a lot in favor of DSotM and the Wall, but this is so weirdly amazing. It's some of the wildest and most experimental stuff that Pink Floyd ever did. There's a kazoo solo at one point. Corporal Clegg is like a fucked up roadside circus on acid. It's so freaking good. I love it.
Welcome to the Machine came on in one of my playlists and for some reason, it was resonating far more than typical, so I had to throw on the full album. This album always puts me in an odd but good place. It's hard to explain. It's like it's tuned directly to my soul or something.
I have to share this, because it is absolutely amazing. One of Shawn Crahan’s (best know as Clown from Slipknot) side projects. You’d never expect the man was in Slipknot, though, as this is not even mildly heavy. Plus, they’ve got an amazing singer in Stella Soleil. This is an album everyone should hear.
I found this band by accident last night and I think I’m kind of in love with them. They have a unique mix of hardcore punk and experimental/psychedelic rock that I really dig. The main track, Year of the Dragon, is an 18 minute epic that plays heavily on their experimental tendencies while staying in touch with their punk roots. The ebb, flow, and interplay between these two seemingly disparate styles makes for an ever engaging track that makes you forget that it is 18 minutes long.
I pretty much instantly fell in love with this. It’s just the sort of modern experimentation I have been looking for. It’s melodic and different, and exactly what I wanted. I plan to see about getting it on vinyl this weekend when I get paid, which is a testament to how much I enjoy it.
Apparently, Spotify has a playlist especially for me. I've been trying to find modern psychadelic/experimental stuff for a while now, but keep coming up empty. So, last night, I was absently looking through the browse feature on Spotify mobile when I came across a playlist for the exact thing I have been looking for for months. It's a bit less avant-garde than I would like, but it has already led to a ton of new finds in just 2 hours of listening. It should provide a fantastic jumping off point that will eventually lead to the more experimental stuff I am looking for.
