“I enjoyed the meetings, too. It was like having friends.”
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix 2007, dir. David Yates
Sometimes I think about Harry and Luna and I’m floored by how J.K could’ve had something so good underneath her nose, and completely miss it.
From Luna believing in Harry 100% when nearly no one else did, to her words being the last thing he thought about before kissing Cho, to the voices behind the veil and I hear them too, to Harry realizing Luna was the one person he didn’t mind talking to about Sirius and that she made the weight of his grief lighter in Book 5.
To Harry inviting her to Slughorn’s party without even realizing he was going to do it, to Peeves mercilessly telling the entire school that Potty lurves Loony even though Harry tried to make his just-as-friends intentions clear, to Luna making him laugh and enjoy himself for one moment of respite in Book 6.
To Luna being able to recognize him at once even when we was using Polyjuice potion, to Luna being the one captured by the DEs, to Luna being there for him during what happened to Dobby and putting Harry’s feelings into words when he can’t bring himself to do it, to the both of them getting the diadem together, to Luna being the one who shows up and is able to make Harry feel hope and conjure the Patronus when he was at the brink of despair, to Harry feeling beat and avoiding everyone right after the battle but finding himself going to sit besides Luna anyway, and Luna knowing exactly what he needed and helping him have it in Book 7. To Harry naming one of his daughter Lily Luna.
I mean, H/L was so gradual and natural and organic that it’s like it was writing itself. And it pretty much was, since all the build-up and foreshadowing seems to have been completely accidental. It’s honestly amazing that you could expand one or two scenes, add one or two realizations, and H/L showing up at the epilogue would have made complete sense.
I was so let down back then, when the series first ended. But as I get older, I’ve started to think that while there’s no denying that Luna would do a world of good to Harry, Luna marrying into the Scamanders is probably the best thing that could’ve happened to her for her dreams, interests and career. Whenever I watch Newt I feel so joyous thinking that if Rolf is even a little bit like him, Luna must feel so supported and be so ridiculously happy.
But I will always think that if Harry had been allowed to deviate from the course that was expected of him after the end of the war; allowed to find himself something that he honestly and truly enjoys, and to get some support for all the trauma he’s been through, I do think he could have grown into someone who would’ve been able to enrich Luna’s life to the same extent she would’ve enriched his.
And that’s why I will always, always treasure H/L and what they were, and think fondly of what they could have been. Always.

⤷ order of the phoenix film: harry and luna talk in the forest
“they’re called thestrals; they’re quite gentle really, but people avoid them because they’re a bit…” “… different.”

{ lunarry } ~married life au~< after finally achieving peace by slaying the dark lord, voldemort, harry found himself feeling lost and unsure of what to do next…until he discovered himself and happiness once again in the arms of luna lovegood. through falling in love with her and taking some much needed time off, he realized his job as an auror didn’t suit him any longer and sent in a job application to work at hogwarts as their defense against the dark arts professor. they graciously accepted his application. it’s during this time where harry proposes to luna and the two marry on a beach not far from luna’s house. they settle into a pleasant daily routine: harry goes off to work at hogwarts while luna continues to document every magical creature she can find in her logs. their dinner time conversations are always lively affairs as harry talks warmly of all his students, feeling fulfilled in teaching the next generation of wizards and witches how to protect themselves from people like voldemort. and luna, with all of her vibrancy, shows off her daily research to harry, smile beaming like a crescent moon. it’s the best life they ever could’ve imagined for themselves…and made even better by luna announcing to harry that she’s pregnant with their first child.
LunArry is my absolute favorite ship of the HP series
Their connection and chemistry was absolutely beautiful. It was so obvious how fond they were of each other I honestly cry every time
I love how they seem to be so different on the surface yet have so much in common when you really get down to it and that they really just understand each other, ya know?
Like they’re both outcasts who feel alienated from their peers, albeit in very different ways, who really just need someone to care for and appreciate them as they are
And then they are basically like the only people to do that for one another
Luna is the only person to actually help Harry move on after Sirius’ death and is able to comfort him because she adores him for who he is as a person rather than being “the Boy Who Lived”. She tells him to his face on more than one occasion that she sees him as “exceptionally ordinary” and enjoys his company anyways
And Harry is literally the only person willing to listen to what Luna says and actually takes value in her words instead of just disregarding everything she says as nonsense like most others do. She’s one of few people Harry has ever allowed himself to be vulnerable and completely honest around because of how much he trusts her
There’s so many instances of Luna being there to talk Harry down or Harry reminding Luna that he’s her friend no matter how quirky other people may find her and just generally enjoying each other’s company
It’s so sad that they’re so underrated when they’re literally the best possible choice for romance in the series (at least in my opinion). I really truly think they were the best matches for each other and 100% deserved to be canon
