Protests and Activism: A (Long) Masterpost
Disclaimer: I am not an expert on protests, riots, nor the incredible work that street medics do in these situations. I made this post to compile a list of resources and potentially helpful information to others so they don’t have to redo the research I’ve been compiling since 2017.
How do I stay informed?
- Local news sources are ultimately your best bet for staying informed about what’s going on in your local community. Also follow groups involved with the events, especially if you’re seeking information on how to help or participate.
- You can also refer to other sources such as Unicorn Riot:

- Social media is prone to bias and inaccuracies, even more so than biased journalism across the nation, so beware. However, some resources I’ve personally found useful in the month of May 2020 are looking up stories for specific cities on map.snapchat.com + reddit megathreads that get populated with updated resources throughout the day/week, e.g.:
- https://www.reddit.com/r/Minneapolis/comments/grycfj/megathread_minneapolis_protests/
- https://www.reddit.com/r/phoenix/comments/gs9o90/im_interested_in_joining_or_starting_a_protest/fs42q9a/
- https://www.reddit.com/r/Denver/comments/gswkav/george_floyd_protest_megathread_post_any_relevant/
- A handy article to send the uneducated in your lives: https://www.vox.com/2020/5/31/21276004/anger-police-killing-george-floyd-protests
- Other subreddits for the city you may specifically live in or live closest to may also have more information for potential activists/volunteers/concerned community members.
- Be sure to check in with family, friends, and neighbors while such things are going on, as things can develop very quickly, as we have seen in Minneapolis.
