Gideon every day in the Ninth House
She's learned to lock the fuck in, but it still keeps happening
I’ve always wanted to go to a house party like you see in movies but I never found out about any. Was too busy in the monastery where I was trained to kill
Simply wanted to paint my favourite Cavalier with golden eyes.
some days you're god's bastard child conceived to destroy the world

the ninth's golden girl
tumblr keeps putting posts on my dash about how it’s not “realistic” for Gideon to be fat/buff/fat+buff bc all the Ninth House eats is snow leeks and oatmeal
I’m so sorry, I can’t seem to hear you. I was too busy adding 20 pounds to her, as I do every time I hear this rancid opinion
Not to sidetrack from this, but honestly fat/buff/combo Gideon is also a good way to portray something important about her: she's the first non-resurrected/non-thanergy-irradiated human born in the Dominicus system in 10k years.
Think about how the other Housers are described. The necros are all "starved" and "raw boned" and even trained military non-adept Marta has a staggeringly average running speed. There is something stunted and sickly about the thanergetic Dominicus system and the impact it has on people.
And then there's Gideon, the child of an honest to goodness regular human and John who...well, never died and clearly doesn't have a typical necromancer's relationship with thanergy. And who is regularly described as seeming more real and more vital than those around him.
Gideon should look fit and fat and compellingly more *alive* than her House compatriots. And her physicality *should* defy natural possibilities - if she can improbably survive nerve gas and blunt force trauma and frostbite, she can build improbable muscle on snow leeks and oatmeal.
Back from the dead and I've got space lesbians this time (couldn't decide which gideon I preferred so have both)
Me: I miss Gideon, I want her back
Tamsyn Muir: Okay, here’s Gideon trapped in Harrow’s body
Me: No, I want the original Gi-
Tamsyn Muir: Here’s Prince Kiriona Gaia the First, Her Divine Highness. Heir to the Emperor Divine, first of the Tower Princes
Me: Just… forget I said anything
My favourite trope has to be:
I sacrificed myself to save you. I didn't plan to survive. I burnt all the bridges. I intended to break your heart with my death, but that would be all right, because I wouldn't be around to see you. I pretended that you'll mourn me for a while and move on. I convinced myself I was going down in the blaze of glory. That my deed was appreciated. That everything was going to be all right afterwards, and I didn't need to be there to see it.
But I survived. And now I have to look you in the eye. I have to pick up the pieces of the life I shattered and figure out how to put it back together. If it can be done at all.
Double Bingo! Another that I've been planning to do since the start

doomed by the narrative and haunted by the narrative and a secret third thing (narrating the narrative)
Me, reading GTN for the first time, biased for the Gideon POV narration: why everyone is so mean to Gideon why arent they befriending her when she is so cool???
Gideon most of the book:
"Gonna spend my time not talking and standing in the shadows full in black"
Gideon Nav as St Sebastian by Juan Carreno de Miranda. Such a fun study to draw her as😎
[ID: A digital illustration of Gideon from the Locked Tomb series as St Sebastian in the painting St Sebastian by Juan Carteno de Miranda.
Gideon is a muscular woman with tan skin, short, wavy ginger hair, and gold eyes. She wears a gray tank top and has bright orange cloth draped over one arm. One hand rests on her ribs, with the other hand over a steel fence spike stabbed through her chest. She is looking to the side with a reverent expression. The background is black, aside from a glowing circle of light behind Gideon's head.
The second is the original painting of St Sebastian, a pale shirtless man with curly hair in the same position, stabbed through with an arrow instead.
The last is a pencil sketch of the drawing of Gideon. /End ID.]
Gideon Nav terrible fashion sense is so important to me babygirl has never been free to dress herself in her LIFE and i firmly believe that if she did have that freedom she would wear just. the most dogshit outfits. socks with slides. neon colors. shirts that say TITS with an arrow pointing down. outfits so bad every woman she meets is begging to take her on a department store makeover episode. outfits so bad you wonder if she got dressed in the dark upside down picking her clothing items by chaos potential. outfits so bad they wrap around to being sick as hell before winding back and punching you straight in the face
