the thing about samantha smith is that all I could think about while editing this was that we were truly robbed of lucifer!mary. like she was BORN to play evil mary. she does the reserved, stoic mary so subtly well that when she does  unhinged and cruel mary it’s so much fun (brainwashed mary, eve!mary, heaven mary, djinn mary, etc.)

I literally spent the last two weeks trying to come up with explanations for how Mary could return alive in the finale, but now that all you a-holes wanna theorize she isn’t even dead in the first place, just sent away, I don’t wanna get my hopes up :P

It just… doesn’t seem like Glynn would kill her like that unless she was forced to. SPN usually shows us the body at least, after someone is killed, and they’ve never crossed over an episode for that. Jack probably thinks he vaporized her.

I like the idea that she was sent away. She’s probably in the middle of Russia freezing her butt off, really mad.

I definitely don’t want to shoot anyone down, because of Sam Smith’s insta implying she was filming during the finale so you could be right, but one of the reasons people were bracing for Mary dying was because of spoilers from Nashcon where Kim, Briana, and Jensen said there was a death coming up. The show rarely pulls a ‘surprise, they’re not dead’ card, Rowena and Billie being one of the rare exceptions. Jensen and the others could have been deliberately misleading, though, so here’s to hoping!

Yeah ... as much as I really want her to be alive, I’m pretty sure she’s not. If I recall correctly, Kim Rhodes was specifically asked about (paraphrasing wildly) cast members who she is close to whose characters had been killed off, and she mentioned a death that was going to be happening later this season. She and Sam Smith have been good friends for a long time. Etc.

Hopefully we’ll see her in the finale at least.

[Dean’s idea of Heaven] involves being a little boy when his mother was still alive and having her cut the crusts off his sandwiches for him. […] That happy scene in the Winchesters kitchen took an unexpected turn when we discovered that Mary and John were having marital problems, but Smith wasn’t disappointed to learn that Mary and John hadn’t had a storybook relationship. “It’s just so much more realistic that way than a perfect relationship,” she feels. “And in the end they did have a good relationship. He came back and it was all good, and he was heartbroken when she died. Sometimes I think that a relationship that survives adversity has a much better chance because you have to fight your way through.”
The big mystery, of course, is why were the Winchesters fighting? Was Mary keeping secrets about hunting monsters that led John to mistakenly believe she was hiding something else from him, like an affair with another man? “I did put a lot of thought into what they were fighting about,” Smith shares, “but I don’t want to say what I came up with, because I just made it up and I never spoke to Eric about it. I don’t want to say something that’s completely wrong. It could’ve been untrue, but it worked for me in the moment.”

[W]atching the young version of Mary has helped [Samantha] Smith better understand her character. “It gives me a whole basis for my strength because I’m not just sweet Mary; I have a whole different background, but one that allows me to be that sweet Mary on the outside.”
Nonetheless, Smith doesn’t foresee having all the aspects of young Mary reflected in future appearances of her Mary. In other words, she doesn’t expect to find a script that focuses on her as a hunter kicking some ass. “No,” she says. “That certainly would be fun, but I don’t anticipate that happening. I think Amy [Gumenick] has the market cornered in terms of Mary as a demon-kicking person! I think that by the time my version of the character came along, she’s put all that behind her. You do see little elements of her strength, like when she’s willing to take on the ghost in Home, but I don’t think you’re ever going to see me as Mary in fisticuffs.”

And now this:

[side eyes all SPN Cast & Crew suspiciously…as always]

But let’s remember that Mary’s kiss with Azazel is significant in terms of world divergence/the whole canon narrative so…maybe there’s going to be a reprise of that.

Clearly Azazel!Cas is gonna kiss Mary in order to bring Dean back to life.
