Listen, little brother, let’s not go all geek on this stuff, okay?
one of my favorite smart dean moments is this bit in 10x20 “Angel Heart” where he and claire are playing mini golf and dean’s looking at the golf club and realizes that the confusing red marks on ronnie’s body are from the hilt of a sword, leading to the discovery of the grigori. and when he explains all this, claire says “you got all that from a putter?”
like. yes. one thing dean is always very good at is looking at the separate pieces of something and seeing how they fit together. it’s why he’s good at fixing up the impala, or making homemade EMF readers! people (sam) see this as sort of reckless, leap before you look, jump to conclusions type thinking, but i think he’s just very good at looking at something abstract and making rational sense of it. his logic doesn’t always make sense to people, but that doesn’t mean it’s not logical.
this isn’t to say that sam isn’t capable of reaching these same conclusions. he does end up with the same answer as dean in this ep, but he does it separately in what i think is a much more sam way: finding one clue, following it to the next, and the next, and so on and so forth. by the book detective work, linear thinking, etc.
thanks to everyone in the tags. i’m learning a lot about adhd
iirc, the only time it's directly brought up is in 8x18 "Freaks and Geeks," and he doesn't know the answer, or maybe, the answer is that he doesn't know:
VICTOR ...kids. You got any?
VICTOR clear plates and walks into the kitchen. SAM gets up and follows him.
SAM Me? Uh, no.
VICTOR You want any?
SAM Uh, I don't know.
I'm not sure if the show ever knew the answer either.
*note that pre-law is not actually a major pretty much anywhere (maybe at some school somewhere but ive never actually seen it as a major). These choices are all based on some of the most popular majors for law schools students and i only included options available at Stanford (so no criminal justice).
Also leave in the notes/comments your alternate ideas. I'd like to make another poll with some wildcard suggestions.
Please reblog and leave your suggestions!
Some references for your consideration:
SAM Ah, my life was so simple. Just school, exams, papers on polycentric cultural norms. -1x13
SAM Art history course. It's good for meeting girls. -1x19
SAM But I think I've seen it before. I mean, it was a long time ago, it was one of my, uh, humanities courses at Stanford.
DEAN They taught Word of God at Stanford?
SAM No, uh, it was an overview of Native American art— -8x21

there could easily be more, that's just off the top of my head. as for what it all adds up to - ???
One thing that I love about kudos emails is the reminders about fics I've written that I maybe haven't thought about in awhile. Here's one that a lovely reader reminded me of the other day. :)

Summary: It's Rowena's fate to die by the hand of Sam Winchester, but maybe it's not as black and white as it seems.
(Warning for Major Character Death - but I really want to stress that is it after a long and fulfilled life for both of them. This is not a tragic/grief fic; it's bittersweet.)
babygirl your interest in reptilian predators is so adorable
Happy anniversary to Them
Tough to concentrate on cases when one is being Touched by an Angel ™
AKA: They really didn’t capitalize on that invisibility thing, imho
(Don’t repost)
sam and cas feats-of-strength drunken competitions in which they sit on the floor staring dead into the other’s eyes and sam tries to pull cas’s grace out of his vessel which makes cas’s eyes light up blue and cas smites sam just a little bit which makes his eyes light up red and this whole thing takes place in the absolute darkness so when dean and eileen get back from magic mike the tour they just see two shadowy figures sitting at the end of the hall with beady glowing eyes four inches from the other’s face as they try to each kill the other just enough to win the bragging rights of strongest telekinetic in the family (jack is not allowed to participate)
he is not even close to drunk enough to deal with whatever the hell this is
December 19: Sam and Cas
Sam and Cas should not be left alone in the Bunker together. They get into the research and then they open portals to other dimensions or summon weird things (at least this time Sam didn’t get knocked out).
Cas and Sam being a chaotic duo was requested and since I’m also chaotic, you get tentacles :3
sam buys cursed objects to save them in the same way cas buys all the plants at home depot to save them.
sam and cas girls day shopping spree is just. sam pointing at an old mirror in an antique store and cas going up to it and sniffing it. “yes, i’m detecting a curse dating back to the 1700s.” and the employees being too numb by years of customer service to say anything. sam pushing an overflowing cart full of wilting perennials as cas piles more on in the home depot garden section . “cas, uh, i don’t know if we have any more room—“ “i can feel their pain, sam. they need my assistance.”
December 02: Jack and deaged Sam
I thought this was an interesting prompt! And I spent too much time thinking about whether I got the height difference right that I didn’t think about the “affection” part of the prompt. Well, I hope the prompter likes it anyway…!
I imagined that they go on a case together, trying to figure out the cause of the deaging.
Listen, little brother, let’s not go all geek on this stuff, okay?
Im happy for you, Sammy

I need Shoshannah at conventions. 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 I wanna ask her so many questions about Eileen!
[ID: A tweet thread from December 1, 2021. Lacey tweets, “ Hi, @Shoshannah7! I hope you're having a good day! I was wondering- What would Sam's name sign be that Eileen would give to him? Would it be similar to “Moose" because of the nickname? Or is it something more unique?” Shoshannah Stern replies, “ When Eileen signed it (I don't think it ever made it on the show!) it was similar to "moose" except with one hand instead of two and without the branching out movement.” /end ID]
