And you're the place my life begins and you'll be where it ends I'm flying without wings
~ are you ready to be strong?
And suddenly the loss of the TV21 is a thousand times more heartbreaking…
[voicemail message] Hey there, Tiger. There’s been a situation on board the Zero-X, so I’m on my way there now to see if I can assist. Hate to let you down, but we’ll do movie night tomorrow instead. I promise. I hope you understand. Don’t wait up for me, I’ll be home before you wake up. Love you, son! Jeff Tracy out.
Three thousand,three hundred and twenty.
“Hey there,Tiger…”
Three thousand,three hundred and twenty-one.
Scott has to travellight wherever he goes. A couple of grams could make the differencebetween life and death when he’s got three terrified peopleclinging to him and the jet pack’s straining way beyond its safetylimit. He can take nothing of meaning for fear of losing it down amine or on top of a mountain where he’d never find it again. Hetakes a photograph of the old days before dad disappeared whereeveryone’s laughing and there’s no strain in anybody’s eyes, not even his own. He looks alien in it now, all young and care freeand excited by the rocket plane being built in a hangar thousands ofmiles away. There’s no gray in his hair and the only weight on hisshoulders is Virgil’s arm, slung tight around him to draw him intothe picture. Scott keeps it with him just in case he needs somethingto look at; something good to fall asleep to one last time.
He keeps a voicemailtoo. One little voicemail he can’t even remember getting becausethe events afterwards wiped everything else out from his memory. Itsat there ignored for a day because Scott had far, far bigger thingsto worry about than one quick voicemail. He had things to do, so, somany things it’s been eight years and he still finds things heneeds to do. The list overwhelms him and consumes him even nowbecause a company the size of Tracy Industries can only wait for solong and people all around the world have got no time to wait at all. He’s always needed in sixteen different countries for twentydifferent things and it drowns him. It devours him even in his dreamsof explosions and having to leave the debris field – leave dadbehind because there was a little boy thousands of miles away who hadno parents at all now.
And he’d finallylistened to the voicemail that night because compared to everythingelse on his list, one voicemail he could deal with.
“Hey there,Tiger…”
One.
It helps in thedarkest nights when it feels like the sun’s got stuck beneath theearth and it’ll never rise again. When Scott’s watched thefootage for the thousandth time, his eyes all red and sore fromstaring at the bright lights in the dark and still finding nothing. When it feels like he’s got nothing he listens over and over untilhe knows every breath and hesitation.
“Don’t waitup for me…”
But Scott does.Every night for hundreds of nights, each hour blurring into the nextand one rescue merging into another ‘til he forgets what countryhe’s in and what he’s even doing there. That drawl is all he canhear for months and it’s so loud on birthdays he can’t think ofanything except dad but he has to because he’s got four brothersand they keep getting older. They need somebody in their lives tokeep up traditions and make their birthday all about them. So Scottsmiles and sings Happy Birthday and tidies up confetti and putsplates in the dishwasher just like dad used to, hoping in time thatthe singing will become louder than that drawl.
“I’ll be homebefore you wake up….”
He listens to itwhen he wakes, sometimes. When his legs match the color of hisuniform or Thunderbird One’s grounded for repairs. Or if it’s asignificant day or a good day or pretty much every day for a fewyears.
One thousand. Twothousand.
He’s reached threethousand when there’s finally the breakthrough Scott stoppedlooking for two years and six months ago. Scott’s never given uphope; he’s a Tracy and they don’t give up hope no matter what, but finally the drawl has gotten a bit quieter and he can havethoughts that don’t immediately go back to dad. The good daysoutnumber the bad and that’s when it happens.
“Jeff Tracy,out…”
But he’s not out.You can kick a Tracy down but he’ll never be out. They never giveup no matter what life throws at them, the four wonderful young menwatching the new video with Scott can attest to that. They never givein even when the sun won’t rise and all hope feels lost. They keepon fighting and this shows them why it’s so important to keep theirfaith in the universe and in doing the right thing no matter what itcosts. Jeff Tracy; still teaching them life lessons after all thistime.
“Hey there,Tiger…”
This.
This is everything.
I know that there's a lot of secrecy behind international rescue, how come no one knew who John was in The Man from TB5, even tho he's the person who answers all emergency calls
Did you hear about how Henry Cavill hung out in the middle of Times Square wearing a Superman t-shirt and everything yet nobody recognised him?
It’s a bit odd that the Hood spoke directly to John without recognising him since we know the Hood spoke to John in S1′s Under Pressure. Maybe the Hood didn’t care since Bothering John would be more hassle than it’s worth, same as he’s not interested in TB3 in Signals because stealing a Thunderbird would bring the GDF straight to his door. Maybe he just wanted to grab what he could and get out of there before anyone could intercept him. He messes with a Tracy and he loses the element of surprise which appears to be the main part of his plan because he didn’t appear to have any intention of cutting the cables.
Or maybe he was just blinded by that blingin’ white suit.
Can you analyse Scott in SOS Part 2?
SOS PART TWO. Right. Heck. What an episode. The second part of Scott Tracy’s long long long long long long long long long awaited return to our screens. After like, nine episodes without him the writers finally remember he exists again and oh man, it’s so good to have him back.
A lil bit of context is needed. So by the time SOSP2 rolls around, we’ve seen important episodes such as Recharge and Up from the Deep. In Recharge we find out that Scott misses his Papa and focussing on IR stops him from going crazy. In Up from the Deep we get to see the TV21 and how much it means to Scott. He’s tryna chase down the guy who tried to kill his lil bro to get their dad’s rocket back. Ultimately they fail and Scott loses a part of his dad all over again. Heck, I remember the day we had to sell my dad’s bike to pay for the funeral and it felt like losing him all over again. Even now it burns. Losing the TV21 would’ve torn a heck of a chunk out of Scott that wouldn’t have healed by the time the Calypso returns to earth in SOS.
And then he almost loses Gordon. Again. Heck.
I don’t know about you guys but honestly the launch scene makes me bawl. The mortal peril part of UftD only lasted a few seconds ‘til Gordon got back in contact with them but this time there’s nothing but silence. The kind of silence that stays with you and haunts you forever.
Look at him. Commander Scott Tracy right there. We don’t get to see the emotional consequences as often as we should. I wish we did because this scene is honestly one of TAG’s finest moments. It’s even better than the Uninvited when TB1 has crashed and Jeff’s worrying because he’s heard nothing from his boy. I just love the look big brotp give each other. Usually Scott’s pissed and Virgil’s calming him down but not this time. Not this time.
(I just love shots like these heck. Gordon’s so deep down and far away in the darkness...)
Commander Scott’s back, yo! Co-ordinating the rescue with Alan and talking to Grandma back at the island and with Lady P too. He sounds so serious it hurts my heart.
“The second Thunderbird Four is in the clear...”. No waiting for backup, no waiting for Virg to make it safe somehow. The SECOND TB4 is in the clear, u go get that lil bro of yours, Scott. We’ve had so many episodes with filler or the purple toddlers or people who don’t deserve to be rescued. This was a 10/10 rescue for a precious lil tadpole and Scott was in command of it every single second gosh I adore this man so much help
AND THEN WE FINALLY GET TO SEE SCOTT DEMONSTRATE THE MEDICAL SIDE OF HIS FIRST RESPONDER DUTIES BUT I DIDN’T WANT IT TO BE LIKE THIS NOT THE TADPOLE
I CAN’T DEAL WITH THE BODY LANGUAGE IN THIS SCENE. Like, hell Gordon’s lying on a stretcher kinda thing? I bet his own brothers had to carry him out of TB2 and won’t the memory of that keep Scott awake at night for the next six months at least.
I WOULD VERY MUCH LIKE TO KNOW WHAT SCOTT AND JOHN WERE DISCUSSING HERE. I hope it was revenge.
I never noticed Grandma Tracy touching Scott’s arm before oh gosh that’s precious this whole episode was just so precious and terrifying and what a lovely way to bring this to a close I hope you enjoyed it.
is there is a relation between scott and marion van arkel
She’s into him but Scott’s expression is really weird here. It’s like /watchpeopledieinside
All the boys are like that whenever someone touches them on a rescue tho so maybe it just says “No Touchey” in the Big Book Of Rescues
I'm coming to defend you || Live or die, see it through || It's the least that I can do
Who do you worry about more when out on missions.
“Right now it’s mostly Gordon.” Scott frets even as he watches a little yellow icon bob across the screen. He’s not spying, he’s keeping an eye on that little brother of his.
“Virg and I can get to each other in minutes if we need to, and Al’ and John have got each other as backup if something goes wrong up there, but it’s a deep, lonely ocean for one tiny submarine. Thunderbird Four’s been the target of a couple of attacks now and I always worry when the next one will come.” Scott smiles and it’s bitter, “Especially since we’re an international aid organisation and aren’t armed like the GDF.”
how do you think Dad!Scott will handle Jeff coming back?
Oh boy.
I’m really, really hoping that for the first time in a decade, Dad!Scott disappears and we get that grieving kid who had to grow up way too fast that we got a glimpse of in Recharge.
Losing somebody completely changes who you are though. The Scott that Jeff knew won’t exist anymore. In his place is a man who’s been leading International Rescue for like, a decade. Alan’s memories of growing up will revolve around Scott and big bro will have spent a third of his life raising his lil bros.
That’s not something that anybody could let go of very easily. This great big gaping crater gets ripped open in your life one day and over the years it gets filled in but it never fully heals. You take it with you wherever you go, all that guilt at failing his dad and not being enough for Alan. The grief at being an orphan like, fifty years ahead of his time. The anger at being left behind that never really leaves you. Scott’s gonna be feeling all that when he sees Jeff again. And he’s stepped so far out of Jeff’s shadow by now that maybe he won’t be so easily dazzled when they’re reunited? I think younger Scott would step down but I can’t see older Scott being prepared to step down to make way for the king. It’s his throne now :D
I’d expect grief and anger and jealousy on all sides but at the end of the day it’s TAG. We’ll get fifteen minutes of the Chaos Crew instead and a meaningful glimpse between the Tracy fam if we’re lucky lmao.
What's that little hand gesture Scott does when he's hauling Alan up the crevasse?
Let’s have a looksie
I think he’s telling Alan that those aren’t the drones he’s looking for.
Do you think that when/ if Jeff returns Scott will have trouble to adjust to not being responsible for his younger brothers anymore, seeing as his looked after them for so long. Do you think they'd clash over what they think is best for them in certain situations
Oh man, I desperately want to see this because it’s been a few years but wasn’t that pretty much the reason they wrote Jeff out, so the boys could spread their wings and learn to fly on their own?
(except we all collectively went no, bring Papa Jeff back 💪 )
Depending on how long it takes them to get Thunderbird X operational and all the way across the galaxy, there’s a good chance that Scott would’ve been dad!Scott for over half of Alan’s life. Jeff will have been missing for like, a third of Gordon, John and Virgil’s lives. Scott might have been in charge of International Rescue for a decade by that point which might be longer than Jeff was originally...
So it’s going to be fascinating on all counts. That lil boy and group of teenagers Jeff left behind will all be wonderful young men when Jeff sees them again. And Scott, looking so much like him with those gray hairs and the swagger of a man who knows he can save the world. I can’t wait to see how Jeff reacts to all that and Scott too. We see in Recharge that IR keeps him going. What would happen to him if he no longer had to wake up and be commander? If it’s no longer on him to make sure Alan studies and keeps his room clean?
I’m not sure if he’d implode or explode but gosh do I hope we’ll get to see it.
