dirty spells

I suddenly have a lot of feels about that Legacy dialogue in which we learn Merrill was looking at Anders's books for dirty spells.

why

Merrill: I admit it. I was hoping you'd have, um, dirty spells. Anders: Dirty spells? Merrill: You know! To, um, make things more exciting. Oh, I shouldn't have said anything.

Like, if she's in a romance with Hawke, I get it, yeah. But if she's not, the dialogue still triggers... so then who exactly is she trying to make things more exciting for? Herself? An unknown beau? Somebody else?

Carver: Don't look at me. I haven't given her a hairy anything. Not that it's your business.

In the comics he's wearing Aveline's scarf, isn't he? It's orangey with yellow decoration, which looks more like hers than Hawke's. But this one definitely looks more like the warrior!Hawke scarf to me.

Also, maybe I missed it because I was out of town but is nobody going to talk about the Hawke-like scar across Varric's nose???
