Liberal: *doesn't pay attention to leftist online discourses and explicitly isolates themselves from them unless their echo chamber is using them as a boogeyman*
Liberal: wow suddenly I'm not seeing anybody talk about Gaza now that kamala lost, curious isn't it, where'd yall go?
Hana-Rawhiti Kareariki Maipi-Clarke, the youngest MP in Aotearoa, starts a haka to protest the first vote on a bill reinterpreting the 1840 Treaty of Waitangi
Important to not forget this isn't the only thing happening. The haka disrupting the vote in parliament is supported by nation wide hīkoi of thousands of people on their way to the capital to protest this
If you want to learn about what the proposed bill is that people are protesting and what it would actually mean for the constitution of Aotearoa if it went through...

struggling to understand how people can act THIS shocked whenever another TME theorist/activist (especially a cis 70s feminist) gets revealed as having written super transmisogynistic texts and palled around with TERFs. surely this cannot come as this much of a surprise. people are so incredibly reluctant to question the politics of the Established Feminist theorists. maybe someday having been "kink critical" and talking about the Unique Oppression of (cis) Lesbians and repeatedly drawn trans woman and lesbian as two separate categories and having attended fucking michfest will be enough for people to realize that without acting so surprised like come on now.
I feel like creating these loose, ill-defined chains of culpability taking people who, while imperfect, have specifically spoken in support of trans women when push comes to shove, and then linking them to people who are more actively transmisogynistic, bears a lot of resemblance to the sort of disingenuous tactics used in callout posts. I don't think this is a good thing to do.
the reason callout posts are bad is because they target marginalized communities, especially trans women, who rely on community support for survival and isolate them by turning people against them for ultimately trivial acts that are not condemned the same way when coming from tme people. I with my 300 followers do not in any way have the power to meaningfully "call out" dead established feminist theorists nor do I want to. feinberg being explicitly, clearly friends with adrienne rich and other TERFs is not loose or ill defined this is documented history. bell hooks using transmisogynistic rhetoric against the protagonists of paris is burning is just as clear. what does having "spoken out in favour of trans women" mean in this context. if you can understand how someone can say "support trans women and fuck terfs!" and still be violently transmisogynistic this shouldn't be that much of a puzzle
as a non-adult who has some residual fondness for harry potter, why, exactly?
Author is a TERF, possibly racist, and has white-supremacist adjacent friends. So a lot of people feel uncomfortable giving her money on account of her views.
That said, "any residual fondness" is way overkill. Anyone who vocally supports her recent actions is an immediate threat to the safety of LGBT people.
Anyone who says "I enjoyed her books, but I don't support what she's saying" is probably fine actually
Wrong.
yesterday I sarcastically made up the tech company names "Trimble" and "Plinq" and then to my horror discovered that both actually exist
one of us is having a stroke and I'm worried it's me
What do you mean Trimble is part of the US military industrial complex

I’m gonna be honest, I saw this coming, I’ve been warning about global fascism for many years, but honestly living in Portland the scapegoat city while fascists have been emboldened to fly Nazi flags across the country, the January 6 goons are going to be pardoned, and liberals are increasingly scapegoating the marginalized has made me terrified of a new federal occupation of Portland.
2020 felt like our city was on the verge of martial law. I felt trapped, you couldn’t even get a passport if you wanted one. The police abused the public with full impunity. Unmarked federal agents terrorized young protesters. The president was considering labeling Black Lives Matter and antifascist protesters as terrorist organizations.
This last election wasn’t the choice between fascism or non-fascism but slow creep or fast attack. The energy dissipated after Biden was elected and we did not have the organizational capacity or collective leadership to build up a resistance to the open war on the public our government has been waging for centuries while we have no army. I’m scared of how intense the escalation from here on out will manifest and how unprepared we are to meet the moment.
