im a fucking sucker for the “character gets so badly injured that they can’t think clearly and start calling for help in a distressingly vulnerable way.” characters who start using nicknames for their friends they haven’t used since they were kids. characters who start begging for their brother they haven’t seen in years to be there. characters who would usually use their parents’ names or call them mother/father/etc crying out mama when they go down. u understand.

Why do so many people make tiktoks while they're clearly driving. What the fuck. Stop that shit, you're gonna kill someone.

I think people online treat driving too casually tbh, like there was a poll about people's bad habits while driving and they weren't bad habits or problematic or whatever, they were all things that literally kill people every single day. You are driving a massive vehicle that can very easily turn into a murder weapon with your carelessness, take this shit seriously.

"Haha I never use my turn signals" you are going to kill someone.

"I don't do full stops at stop signs lol" you are going to kill someone.

"Sometimes I text while I'm driving 🤭" YOU ARE GOING TO KILL SOMEONE.

Also people who speed up or suddenly stop or swerve a lot to freak out someone in the car for fun: it stops being funny when you get into a car accident because of it. Just so you know.

as i write this post to call people's attention to my friends' GFM campaigns, i can't stop overthinking what my friends are enduring while begging outsiders like us that they are worth fighting for.

The idea that trans women are just like, cosplaying women or something for some ulterior motive is so utterly absurd to me, especially when I consider what I and so many other trans women value most in our transitions, which really is the mundane. I don’t just “pretend” to be a woman in public, I am a woman always, and it’s at home when I am just doing the same things I have always done that I feel most fulfilled in my transition, like cooking dinner or lounging in my pyjamas or doing homework. I did not transition for some supposed social advantage but because my coffee tastes sweeter through the lips of the woman I am than the man I tried to be.

as a reminder, you, yes YOU, are not immune to conspiratorial thought patterns. or generally being manipulated or lied to

it does not matter how intelligent you are, how much schooling you’ve had, the life experience you’ve had, you are NOT immune to falling down a bad pipeline into alt right thinking. we’re in a high emotion environment right now with very suspicious stuff going on, and this is the perfect environment for people to accidentally get swept into conspiracies hate groups or just straight up cults.

please make sure you have verifiable sources for everything you share, make sure you know the warning signs of pipelines, and keep a good eye on yourself and your friends

for some personal examples

my mom has multiple bachelors and masters from various universities, including one in psychology. very smart woman. she now believes in bleach as medicine and antisemitic conspiracy theories

my grandma and grandpa are both registered democrats, grandma being a nurse and grandpa being extremely gifted in stem topics and top of his class in theology in college. you don’t even fucking want to know the shit they post onto facebook now

keep an eye on what you read right now and for the next four years

The thing about being clever is that it's easier for you to invent a believable story about why things are the way they are. Every scientist knows that you have to ask falsifiable questions about the world because it's so easy to come up with clever or non intuitive ideas that are, in fact, dead wrong.

Check your work. How would you know if you were wrong? How would you know if someone else was? What kinds of data would show you? What kind of data would be enough to change your mind?

Conspiracism is about emotions and narrative. Make sure that you peg the narrative of your understanding of the world to things that can be checked independently of your emotional state.
