Anonymous asked:

Can I hug Red from An Unpaid Tab? Like, go back in time to before the events of the story and hug Red? He's my favorite interpretation of Underfell Sans, and possibly my favorite Sans version of all

I greatly appreciate your ask and I'm sorry to respond late(I think?)

I would suppose you could but he had major trust issues- and probably still does. @flamefiends what do you think?

Pretty sure he’d crumble into a shuddering pile of terrified bones in any circumstance, especially if you did that to him before the events of AUT. CotS Red, maybe wouldn’t go stiff in fear, but he’d still be Not Ok with it.

my favourite thing about big dogs is when you push ‘em over they’re just like

“oh i’m lying down now! someone might scratch my stomach!!! i might nap!! endless possibilities!!!’

Whereas you push little dogs over and they’re all like “Vengeance! Death before dishonor!”

And then you push cats and it’s an absolute lottery, because some may just say “mrow” and start purring and some will rip your stupid face off.

Was it D&D that popularized the image of Clerics, Paladins, and other holy warriors using blunt weapons like maces and hammers? And if so, why do you think that trope seems to have stuck?

Avatar

It can be argued that D&D popularised the trope in the sense of bringing it to the attention of the broader public, but it didn’t originate it, no. The “clerics can only wield blunt weapons” thing is basically a medieval history in-joke.

In a nutshell, throughout much of Western European history, it was common for the second sons of noble houses to enter the priesthood, and many priests were themselves significant landowners. This created an incentive for priests to take to the field in times of war, which the Church regarded as a conflict of interest. The Church attempted - unsuccessfully - to curtail this behaviour by issuing edicts forbidding members of the clergy from shedding blood.

There are apocryphal stories of various priest-commanders - most notably Odo of Bayeux (yes, as in the tapestry) - attempting to circumvent these edicts by wielding clubs (which technically don’t shed blood) in battle. There’s little historical evidence that these stories are true, but they’re popular enough that basically any medieval history buff would know them - and D&D’s creators were, to a man, medieval history buffs, so the trope entered into D&D via clerical weapon proficiency restrictions as a sort of inside joke.

Tormenting children is the design, not the flaw. Secretary Nielson will go down in history as true evil. She was warned of the risks to children and sadistically kept the same plan.

Republicans are blaming the 7 year old.

For everyone’s information:

The plan for the 17th, when the adult content ban comes in, is to protest.

To do that, we are making as much noise either side of the 17th as possible, and using the site as normal.

On the 17th, dead silence.

People are saying log off but what they really mean is don’t open the site or the app.

But, on the 17th make as much noise as possible on every other platform. Tweet about it and post on facebook and instagram and everywhere else.

What this does is causes a massive dip in ad revenue for one single day. That does not make staff think ‘oh everyone’s gone let’s shut down.’ What it actually makes them think is ‘oh shit people aren’t happy and if people don’t keep using our site we’re out of money and out of jobs.’

A boycott reminds a company that the users (consumers) have the power to make their site (business) worthless with one single coordinated decision.

If you want to join in, here’s what to do:

Do:
  • Close all open instances of the app and site on all your devices before the 17th
  • Make posts before and after the 17th on tumblr and other platforms, talking about why this ban is bad
  • Make posts on other sites during the 17th. Flood the official tumblr staff twitter and facebook with your anger and your opinion
  • Come back on the 18th and check in
Don’t:
  • Delete the app from your phone (this doesn’t affect their revenue and since it’s off the store at the moment it’ll be hard to get back)
  • Delete your account. I mean you can if you want to, but if you keep your account and don’t use it you’re saying to staff that there’s still time to save it. If you delete it’s hard work to come back.
  • Open the app or website (including specific blogs)
  • Make any posts (turn down/off your queue and make sure nothing is scheduled)
  • Go quiet elsewhere. Make it clear that this is just about tumblr, not a mass move away from all social media.

Remember: the execs don’t care about anything but money. Shutting down the site means there’s $0 further income from it. That’s their last possible course of action. If we make it clear we’re not happy, they’ll have to do something or we can do more and more until it becomes too expensive.

Protests take commitment. They’re a defiant action against a business that is doing something wrong. They will try to scare you into not participating, because they’re scared. We hold all the power here, sometimes the execs just need to be reminded of that.

Sony Animation went from this

to this

Just after a year

Technically not in a year development for movies takes more like 5 years. Development for Into the spider-verse started around 2014. While The Emoji Movie was in development around the same time. They were technically developed together but what a lot of people tend to lack remembering is that they are different teams.

The movies may belong to the studio but there are tons of people working there. All that Sony from the top really does is approve which projects they are going to fund.

We’re judging a whole animation and distribution center on something not everyone works on. It’s not improvement it’s just two entirely different teams working on different stories.

I think the lack of understanding how the industry actually works hurts a lot of animators in the end because then a project isn’t associated with a team, but a company. And I think it should be something that’s highlighted when talking about animation.

Not to mention, most of the time, these studios are commissioned to do their films by outside studios, and by various people who pitch the original ideas.  The Spider-Verse film was created by a team at Sony under the patronage of Marvel, for instance.

Please don’t make the mistake of assuming a studio is one singular entity that makes a single kind of thing – studios employ a LOT of people, and in order to afford to pay these people and secure a profit, they must also be working on several concurrent projects, often of vastly different styles.

Just remember, these are elected officials and our tax dollars are being used for this.

This is what its like serving people. People want straight answers to questions they fundamentally don’t understand. They don’t even understand the language you use. There is a very definite answer to what ‘wifi’ is, but a lot of oldies have their own understanding which is seperate from fact, but they believe to be fact. So when you try to explain it to them it gets to a point where they not only don’t understand it, but they don’t want to understand it.

These people here, its not that they don’t understand the tech at hand. Its that they simply don’t want to. And so they never will.

Are you really…. not supposed to…. describe what your characters are wearing….

Avatar
by-ethan-fox

I think there’s a great deal of misinformation on this topic.

I believe it’s fine to describe what your characters are wearing. However, like all things, it should serve some kind of purpose.

For instance, describing winter clothes helps impart to the reader a sense of how cold it is. Describing summer clothes helps explain how warm it is.

Describing an outfit before a social event gives a window onto the character’s sense of fashion, or explains their reverence (or lack) for the event; for example a character can wear a black suit to a funeral, or watch from a distance while wearing a t-shirt and jeans. These impart a different attitude.

An outfit may be described purely to give a little more interest to a character; to give the reader a bit more insight into who they are, through the way they present themselves. It may have no greater significance to the wider story but this is still a reason to do it.

So the “purpose” doesn’t need to be super-vital to the story. It can be just because “describing this to the reader helps them appreciate the character or scene”, but that’s still a purpose.

I like that last comment because I think it can apply to a lot of things in storytelling! Anything that shows some element of your character has a purpose to the story even if it doesn’t exactly advance the plot.

!!!

I know a lot of y’all were asking about this last night.

O’ Tumblr (a parody of Hellfire) Sung by Codot

Lyrics: Community Guidelines, you know I am a righteous man, of my content I am justly proud, Community Guidelines, you know I’m so much purer than, the filthy child porn producing crowd.

Then tell me, O Tumblr, why the whole of us must pay, Why the porno bots can’t be controlled? I see them, I block them, their posts no longer linger there, So why are we the ones that you must scold?

O Tumblr! Damn Tumblr! The Tumblr that had been, Would never allow this! Why purge my harmless sin?

It’s not our fault! We’re not to blame! It is the Russian bots and monsters who should pay! It’s not our fault! You made a plan! Where women’s nipples are more hunted than the Klan!

Protect us, O Tumblr, Don’t just become an Apple drone, Don’t let monopoly control your mind.

Don’t punish creators,  Or we will find another home, Where we come first and aren’t left behind.

GUARD: Waiting4Codot, your post has been flagged. CODOT: What? GUARD: The puppies were mistakes for female-presenting nipples. CODOT: But how? Nevermind. Get out you idiot. I’ll find a better website if I have to burn down all the internet.

Oh Tumblr! Damn’d Tumblr! Now staff the time has come, Choose us the creators, or see your site undone.

Please just reconsider, Staff have mercy on me, Let Tumblr be ours or it will burn!

And yes, I know that, as a voice actor, I won’t be IMMEDIATELY affected, but a LOT of my friends will be, and that frustrates me. Also, it’s only a matter of time before someone makes a horrendous audio post and (given their current behaviour) they wouldn’t even police audio; they’d just get rid of it.

Numbered days, folks.
