Lol okay. I have some feelings about them. Like…they’d be a mess. They’re two people who come from somewhat similar circumstances (familial instability/addiction/loss, etc) but those experiences have shaped them into radically different individuals. Seeing someone go through something similar to you and turn out not just okay but on a high horse about it (ie how Shane could see Penny) would be frustrating, while from Penny’s perspective Shane is just living out all the worst things that have happened to him even though he should know better. I think they’d both be too stubborn to come around to each others’ POV ultimately. 

They’re also both characters who I would imagine need a lot of emotional support, which would be in short supply between them both. 

Now, that all doesn’t necessarily preclude being physically attracted to each other lol. They’re sad, lonely and spicy. I'm sure Pam has warned Penny about men like Shane, so... it sorta writes itself. Well not really cause I haven't started the fic I want to do with this dynamic.

I think they'd have fun just the two of them, but they're both so carefree it's hard to imagine them putting forth serious effort to be in a relationship lol.

I don't think Emily would be condescending, but I do think she'd treat him like a cute, younger novelty rather than a serious love interest...not that she doesn't care for him, but their age difference and his general puppy demeanor makes her fall into a more doting/caretakerly role, and Sam would be just fine with that lol. Ultimately I don't think they'd challenge each other enough to grow into a more mature relationship, but they'd be content to have each other to mess around and pass the time with.

I've got two of the same question so I'll go with the one that's been waiting longer lol-

I do think they're cute, but I just don't love the longtime friends to lovers scenario tbh...I want them to have their best friends and also a significant other I guess? Hard to explain but it makes me kinda sad for some reason, idk...

From a narrative standpoint, it's just more interesting to keep that friend character in the friend zone (lol) as a conceptual foil to their love interest....if that makes sense......not that they're at odds but they provide different perspectives?? So when I'm writing it feels limiting to have one character fill multiple roles for another character. I guess that's why it seems sad to me, cause one person shouldn't be EVERYTHING to someone else, ya know?

I'm overthinking it lol. That said Em and Sandy definitely messed around in the past and have a pretty intimate but comfortable platonic thing now. I think they'd make a pact that if they're both single later on in life they'll just move in together, but they can't decide who'd be moving where. Shane is fine with their relationship and probably feels some relief that Emily has someone stable and reliable to be there for her should he not be able to....but Sandy does kinda intimidate him by being so mysterious and fancy, lol.

Sort of related, I don't really get the Shane/Harvey/Elliott friend threesome either...

Like...what would they even talk about?? I enjoy an odd couple but the chemistry isn't really there imo...it feels forced for the sake of everyone being buddies.

I do have a tendency to make characters a little more antagonistic towards each other than most in this fandom lol, so honestly I just feel like Shane would think Harvey's boring and uptight and Elliott's pretentious and annoying.

You wouldn't know it from my work, but I love Harvey too and should draw him more. The first SDV comic I made was about my farmer and him actually, lol.
