Quentin Beck’s Physique
“I know who you’re pretending to be.” “No “pretending” necessary. I’m the man whose clothes you’re wearing… Good lord. Did my thighs really look that big in them?”
— Francis Klum and Quentin Beck in The Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man: I Hate A Mystery (2006)
Unlike Spider-Man and other heroes/villains, Mysterio’s not running around in a skintight morph suit. He looks nothing like his villain alter-ego. Quentin Beck is not at the gym doing push-ups and ab crunches every day. Mysterio’s suit is loaded with all kinds of tricks, including practical effects to make him look stronger than he actually is. Mysterio’s abs, skinny waist, and broad shoulders are built into the costume because Beck is a performer. He wants to entertain. He has to give people what they want.
