everyone wake up new @fireinmywoods fic just dropped

this was an exercise in simplifying because i always go so over the top but often feel like i rush the sketch/lines to get to the coloring, and get frustrated when it doesn't turn out like my perfectionism wants. by forcing myself to keep it simple i found myself actually enjoying the process more!

#JESUS LIVING CHRIST #this - THIS -#AUGH #okay okay okay let me just. breathe. okay. em. use your words.#i really like the impact of the (mostly) uncolored version! the simplicity of black lines on white with just enough texture...and then RED.#it's super striking!#that said of course the colored version is incredible #the sort of gradient effect from the lightning-brightened sky above all the way down to the black ground at leonard's feet is. mmm. so good #and the way the light bounces off them! for some reason i keep getting drawn back to the shine off both their boots.#i got SO excited at the reveal of leonard's medical white jacket. it's the little things.#their positioning is skillfully done and also ~dramatique~#it's giving me pieta vibes and i am. insane about it.#jim's clutching hand...............................#i am just looking and looking and looking at this and i cannot stop #i need to go reply to comments and also. you know. get the next part ready. but i am busy BEHOLDING. all else will have to wait a bit longe #i hope you are crazy proud of yourself for this because you deserve to be #once more with feeling: AUGH #otp: bedside manner #otp: heart and soul #mccoy #kirk #mckirk #fic related #siel verse #art #star trek #aos #blood cw

been reading a lot of conversations about space since the james webb images were released particularly wrt to light speed and the fact that we are technically "looking into the past" because the light that actually reaches us is millions or billions of years old, and so we only see these places as they were when the light left, not as they are right now. cool & fine & very interesting

but i just saw someone (shoutout sylverthewordsmyth in the tiktok comment section) reframe this as "the future can see us" and despite this being a natural and logical extrapolation from us seeing the past, it has shaken me to my core. if there's anybody to look at us from far away, millions and billions of years in the future, they would look at us and see... us. they would look and see the same planet we live on right now, with the same continents and oceans. and it will be already long gone but to them it will be as alive as it is to us right now, the same way we see still see stars that have already gone out. i have to lay down
