I'm still at work so don't tell my boss I'm writing this on company time
Antonio Fernandez Carriendo: Grew up in the small village where this AU takes place and still loves living there. He has been part of the youth group back when he was younger and is still part of the community. He is part of a team that organises little events like a cake basar after church (mainly because he noticed there's new people around he wants to give them a chance to get to know everyone).
Antonio always wanted children but didn't find a suitable partner after having his heart broken by his ex-girlfriend, so he went for adoption and is now a single dad. He's glad his son seems to get along well with his peers of the youth group because he has been toying with the thought of getting back into dating.
Lovino Vargas: Both of his biological parents died in an accident when he was about 2 years old. He and his little brother Feliciano lived with their grandpa until he passed away and they were separated and put into foster families. He spent nearly 3 years in foster care until he was adopted by Antonio.
Lovino himself hardly remembers this but he gave Antonio a very hard time after he was adopted. Having to spend his early childhood in foster care left some scars but his dad showered him with love from the beginning and slowly earned Lovinos trust.
Their bond was put on trial when Feliciano stepped into Lovino's life. After years of uncertainity he had just accepted the safety Antonio provided and now there was a new 'threat' coming into his life. Lovino has been at the youth group every week as soon as he was old enough to join. He would rather drop dead than have anyone know that he talked to Gilbert about his insecurities regarding his family.
