to jump on that maddie and eddie post - do you think eddie's time at dispatch has affected maddie's opinion of him? like do you think josh has complained to maddie about eddie? (i know there isn't any real animosity between josh and eddie but they weren't like... besties at dispatch)
Hi, anon! This is an interesting question.
Honestly, no, I don't really think it would have had much of an impact. During the time that Eddie was there, I don't think Josh had contact with Maddie, and even if he did have contact with her, I don't think Josh would have brought up any mild complaints he might have had about Eddie at that time. If it had been normal times for all of them, then I could have seen Josh complaining about Eddie a bit because Josh and Eddie did seem to annoy each other (although, really only the once. twice if you count Eddie's little bit of snark in "May Day"). But even then, I don't think a few months of mild complaints from Josh would have made much of a difference in Maddie's opinion of Eddie.
I mean, I do truly think Maddie is not Eddie's biggest fan and she could do without having to interact with him much, but I also think she does respect him a lot, and yeah, part of that is because she knows how much Eddie loves Buck and how much Buck loves Eddie, but I also think she recognizes that Eddie is a genuinely good person and a good father and a damn good firefighter, even if he gets on her nerves.
So even if Josh had gone to her directly with the complaint of Eddie taking over the call in 5x11, I actually think Maddie would have defended Eddie because he did what he had to in that instance with the expertise he had that no one else would have. He made a call and it was the right one. I think Maddie would have seen that, especially because Buck was on that truck. Had Eddie failed to step in, Buck may well not have made it out alive, and there's no universe where I think Maddie's opinion of Eddie could be colored by a minor petty rivalry between him and Josh when he stepped in and kept her brother safe when needed, just as he has so many times before.
So, yes, I think Eddie annoys the living hell out of her (much like Buck does sometimes), but I also think she thinks very highly of him and respects him deeply, even if their personalities clash a bit.
I am about to say something that may get me thrown out of the fandom.
Josh is looking kind of hot this season. 🔥

[Image ID: four gifs of Eddie Diaz and Josh Russo from 9-1-1. The set is a parallel between Josh’s dialogue in 5.11, and Eddie’s in 5.16:
GIF 1: Josh shaking his head as he dresses Eddie down. The text reads, “You are an LAFD liaison, not a dispatcher.”
GIF 2: Eddie, sweaty and in the middle of a fire, talks into his radio to Josh at the other end in 5.16. The text reads, “Josh, you’re a dispatcher, not a firefighter.”
GIF 3: Continued from the previous gif, Eddie’s eyebrows arc as he firmly says, “Today, you’re a guest in this house.” an edge of smugness lining his tone before he and Buck move.
GIF 4: Josh, looking serious and a little upset, talks to Eddie with an edge of frost in his voice. The text reads, “You are a guest in this house — act like it.”

Gif 1: Josh looks from Maddie to Buck and says “If I didn’t know better, I’d say you were setting us up.” Gif 2: Buck laughs, looking down at the table, then up at Maddie. Gif 3: Maddie says “Oh, no, I like you too much to set you up with my brother.” While filing a glass with white wine. The camera cuts to Buck, who says “Uh, hey now.” in mock offense. /end ID]
obsessed with Eddie going “oooooh, go talk to your crush, Josh” and “fuck you, Josh” in the same episode. bitchy gay range.
