#4 David Bowie - Where Are We Now?
’A man lost in time…just walking the dead…’ There were several songs on The Next Day which would’ve made more sense as first single on the surprise comeback of the year. But Bowie being Bowie he went for this, the counter-intuitive as always. Such a lovely thing it is too, melancholy, haunted, heavy with all the accumulated Cold War/Low/Heroes glamour in Potzdamer Platz, yet reaching a moment of transcendent defiance by the end; still here, still doing it, not dead yet. The sound of a man coming to terms with his past, or letting it go. Still living for the future, for what the next day will bring.
