I've been trying to distract myself from the horrors of modern life by knitting unnecessarily complex cable swatches. They are partly inspired by printer's ornaments and other typographic elements.
I know it’s just his accent but in “Keep Driving” when he says “maple,” I always hear “napalm.” 😂😂😂

thats the thing thats missing from america-centric discussion of fascism: this shit is global. every country in “the west” is seeing the same rise of fascism in real time, all of it focused on murdering migrants. like giorgia meloni is campaigning to deport people to “migrant camps” in albania. last year the greek coast guard outright drowned a boat of 500 asylum seekers. and as that last post said im not dismissing the suffering of people within the US, i’m just saying its so supremely frustrating that every conversation is about the minutiae of american domestic policy and not the horrifying ultranationalist global trend scapegoating arabs and africans.
people who knew me when I was younger find the idea of me having to teach hilarious or incomprehensible because they think of me as
a) incredibly shy about talking to people, or b) extremely condescending and mean, or c) both of the above
and like. those are true! i have horrible social anxiety and i am a raging bitch. but when you're doing a job, you go into the mode that that job requires of you. and for teaching college freshmen that's being nice and supportive but also in control and authoritative.
like. i have horrible stage fright. but if i had to be onstage three times a week for two years, i'd get over it? people are malleable! you can be whoever the circumstances require you to be! and sometimes that means finding out that you can rise to the occasion of being compassionate and helpful even if most of the time you are a raging bitch.

I always come back to the idea that radfems don’t seem to let women have any agency or desire of their own. Choice feminism goes too far with the denial of systemic pressures on women to behave in certain ways, but radical feminism attributes everything to a reaction to societal pressure and in so doing doesn’t let women have any agency or desire of their own.
