swordtember day 8: sun
"wen ning is a knife" - a wen ning playlist about violence, personhood, and autonomy.
If you love me, you don’t love me in a way I understand. — Wishbone, by Richard Siken.
For the record, this post was me trying to convey through an artistic manner my incesant screeching over the fact that Wen Ning held Jiang Cheng in his hands several times throughout the series.
- Wen Ning was quick to retrieve Zidian— his mother’s legacy, the one Jiang Cheng was closest to both in manners and personality and whose love he never actually questioned— when he was trying to help them escape from Lotus Pier.
- Wen Ning had a taste of the lotus root soup, a beloved ritual from Jiang Cheng’s childhood that involved the people he loved the most: Wei Wuxian and Jiang Yanli. Wen Ning knows, unawarely, what happiness tastes like for Jiang Cheng.
- Wen Ning offered the fastest way for Jiang Cheng to learn the truth he’d been denied for most of his life, even against the expressed wishes of his master. No one else would have done that for him, but Wen Ning really went and said he can’t be kept in the dark for his whole life.
Not to mention Jiang Cheng laid unconscious into Wen Ning’s arms at least twice and was probably put into a coma so Wen Ning could carry him out of Lotus Pier without causing him much more pain. Given that Wen Ning could recount every single wound in his body, he probably a) had to watch Jiang Cheng get tortured, b) was ordered to make sure he didn’t die right away or c) made a quick examination when nobody else was watching.
Anyway, my point is that their diagonal intimacy (god tier concept by @waterandsilver) keeps me up at night and this is in no way, shape or form about the yunmeng bros, please stop misleading your followers. I really am just chengning trash.
the plight of an older sister

“It’s for Wen Ning, for protection. Although my medical abilities cannot compare to yours, in terms of magic, I still have some tricks up my sleeve.”

May he face no danger.
Only the fearless may proceed.
- UNDERTALE (2015)
Observation: Wen Ning is undead.
Assumption: Since Wen Ning is undead, he does not need food, water, oxygen, or sleep to survive.
Question: Does he simply not need those things to survive anymore, or is he truly incapable of partaking in them?
Observation: Wen Ning is capable of speech.
Deduction: Since speech involves the movement of air across vocal chords, Wen Ning must still be capable of inhalation and exhalation, regardless of his lack of need for oxygen.
Assumption: Since Wen Ning doesn’t need oxygen and may not be able to process it, the air that he expels during speech likely still has the same oxygen content as when it was inhaled.
Conclusion: This, combined with Wen Ning not tiring or needing sleep, makes him capable of acting as a conscious ventilator if needed. Wen Ning can give the most efficient “breath of life” in history.
