I LOVE the new Hilda series on Netflix! (Premiered Sept. 21, 2018) It’s based on Luke Pearson’s Hildafolk graphic novel series and is a very, very faithful and warm-hearted adaptation. Very impressive! And I love the new stories and embellishments as well. So good and I can’t wait for season 2! Shown here is a breakfast I made a while ago inspired by Hilda. In the comics there are several scenes with cocoa and we learn that Hilda loves marshmallows in hers, so I made some thin homemade marshmallow, cut out a disc, and drew a woff on it with an edible food color marker. :)
#tb to watchin’ The Dragon Prince premiere on Netflix (Sept. 14, 2018). Such an awesome show with great characters, story, humor, and action! Really looking forward to season 2! Jelly Tart Recipe here.
Vegetarian Kousa Mahshi (well, one version anyway) for Nightbooks by J. A. White. . I’ve made a few different vegetarian versions of kousa mahshi for Nightbooks, and although they were tasty, I’d still like to make it one more time, a different way, to get it closer to how it’s described in the story.🍽 . Sometimes I go through so many different versions and experimentations for a recipe before I feel like it’s ready to be shared on my blog. Tha’s just how it is sometimes!🤷♀️ . I’ll still share the recipe for this one though, because it’s really tasty.😋 . (Pumpkin Pie Oatmeal Raisin Cookies inspired by Nightbooks in the background. You can find the recipe on the blog.) . ((Nightbooks was published July 24, 2018. I received my copy from the August OwlCrateJr. box.))
Pumpkin Pie Oatmeal Raisin Cookies | Nightbooks by J. A. White
"She opened the door all the way, allowing Alex a view of a comfortable-looking couch and a coffee table piled with oatmeal-raisin cookies and pumpkin pie. Across from this cozy setup, a huge TV played the black-and-white images he longed to see: Barbara staggering toward the farmhouse, where she would be trapped for the rest of the movie, with zombies in hot pursuit. Alex took a step forward, entranced."

If the young adult novel BLOOD ROSE REBELLION was a food, author Rosalyn Eves said it’s be “something with chocolate”, so here it is with homemade chocolate roses. 😊🍫🌹 ((These would also be great for Beauty & the Beast and more!))
Chocolate Roses
1 1/2 Cups Semisweet Chocolate Chips 1/3 Cup Light Corn Syrup
“Soup’s on!” Aunt Josephine called from the kitchen. “Please come to dinner!” “Oh good,” Violet said. “There’s nothing like hot soup on a chilly evening.” “Actually, it’s not hot soup,” Aunt Josephine said. “I never cook anything hot because I’m afraid of turning the stove on. It might burst into flames. I’ve made chilled cucumber soup for dinner.”

“Hello hello hello!” a loud voice boomed out, and from behind the door stepped a short, chubby man with a round red face. “I am your Uncle Monty, and this is really perfect timing! I just finished making a coconut cake!”
The cake was a magnificent thing, rich and creamy with just the right amount of coconut.

Homemade Stuffing for A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
At last the dishes were set on, and grace was said. It was succeeded by a breathless pause, as Mrs Cratchit, looking slowly all along the carving-knife, prepared to plunge it in the breast; but when she did, and when the long expected gush of stuffing issued forth, one murmur of delight arose around the board, and even Tiny Tim, excited by the two young Cratchits, beat on the table with the handle of his knife, and feebly cried Hurrah! —A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
Shepherd’s Pie from Carry On by Rainbow Rowell
He shoves a casserole dish into my arms, then grabs some forks. “Milk?” he asks. “Coke?”
“Milk,” I say. I’m grinning, I can’t stop grinning. He puts the carton on top of the casserole, grabs some cloth napkins from the drawer, then heads back up to his room. It’s a struggle to keep up. . . . . I sit down next to him, and he takes the casserole dish from me and casts a quick, “You’re getting warmer!”—then opens the lid. It’s shepherd’s pie.
“Do you need to eat?” I ask. “Or do you just like it?”
“I need it,” he says, scooping up a bite, avoiding my eyes, “just not as much as other people do.”
“How do you know that you’re not immortal?”
He hands me a fork. “No more questions.”
We finish the shepherd’s pie, eating out of the bowl on Baz’s lap. He chews with his hand over his mouth. I try to remember whether I’ve ever seen him eat before.… I finish the milk. He doesn’t want any.
When we’re done, he sets the dishes outside his door, then starts a fire in the fireplace with his wand.

Gingerbread for TimeKeeper by Tara Sim
In the kitchen, a square of gingerbread wrapped in a cloth sat waiting on the table. "You can't eat all of it," his mother scolded from the past, even as he had grabbed for it with the small greedy hands of a child. "Save some for after supper." But then she would turn from cooking and find his face sticky with crumbs and the gingerbread completely gone, and she'd laugh helplessly. The echo of laughter faded until the kitchen was silent and cold. He touched the edges of the cloth. Nothing was ever simple.

Little Jakku Ration Buns
"Rey's stomach growled as she poured the polystarch into a bowl, activating it with a splash of water. The powder quickly grew into a bread-like loaf. Dinner was ready."

Rey’s Battered Discs
“There was also a small disk, encased in some sort of batter, and when she bit into that it mixed with an almost spicy sugar that was so intense she nearly gagged on its sweetness.”

Rey's Ghtroc 690 Meal
"First thing in the morning, Rey broke the seal on one of the quick-meals and ate, what was to her, some of the finest food she'd ever enjoyed. She had no idea what it was, but there was actual meat product and a sauce that was sweet and tangy at the same time and something she thought might be nuts, which popped between her teeth with a satisfying snap."

Storm Trooper S.O.S. (Cream Chipped Beef)
“FN-2187 used the corner of a chunk of mealbread to wipe up the last of the cream on his plate. The meal, like so many others, hadn’t been designed for flavor as much as efficiency—slivers of overcooked meat in a numian sauce that tasted more like chalk than anything else. But it was filling and provided energy, and that was the point.”
