A stunning, daunting, intense mosaic, Paul Thomas Anderson's third film showed him reaching the very edge of the ensemble style of storytelling he had proven to be such a master of with Boogie Nights. Here, everything is larger, more intense, and infinitely more complex, and while it's sheer mammoth size might daunt some viewers, for those willing to take the film on it's own terms, it proves to be a true masterpiece.
