A ★★ review of Red Dragon (2002)
While nobody expected Red Dragon to come anywhere close to the masterful The Silence of the Lambs, one at least hoped that the stellar casting (Edward Norton, Anthony Hopkins, Harvey Keitel, Ralph Fiennes, Emily Watson, Philip Seymour Hoffman) and the return of screenwriter Ted Tally would equal at least a solid film. Alas, they chose Brett Ratner to be the director, meaning a final product that ultimately has a wealth of squandered potential. Ratner's lumbering direction means that the film, with it's attempts at a gothic tone like The Silence of the Lambs, instead becomes a sluggish, unentertaining experience, as

One of the dominating films of the 1990s, and the film that absolutely solidified David Fincher’s status as a true auteur, Fight Club is a brutally unflinching, shockingly acerbic social commentary-cum-satire, which takes a bloody axe to the various concepts of manhood, society, and the strange materialistic existentialist haze that smothered the late 90s, cofidying it into a film that still, almost twenty years after it’s release, maintains it’s stunningly unique, brutal aura of fanatical deconstructivist nihilism, to the point where it deconstructs itself. A ★★★★ review of The Incredible Hulk (2008)
The second film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, 2008's The Incredible Hulk stands as a solid entry, and while it might not provide an oceanic amount of Hulk action, it provides a strong character study for Bruce, and when the action does happen, it packs a real wallop, and is some truly spectacular action.
