With Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Phase 2 of the MCU finds its footing after a pair of awkward misfires, and not only manages to pull itself together, but do so in a way that not only stands as a wildly entertaining and exciting action thriller, but as a film that is perhaps the best superhero film since Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight, taking the character of Captain America, placing him into a modern, darker context, without stripping away the central thematic optimism and nobility that makes Captain America such a wonderful character.
