Even without the audio, this scene is so visceral and so painful to watch.

You can see the fear in every part of it: the fear as the arm-shackles lock, and his breathing gets quicker and fearful. He’s practically hyperventilating in terror. He knows the pain is coming, and he doesn’t want it to, but this is procedure and protocol and must be followed.

You can see him biting down harder in anticipation of the pain before the programming mechanism locks into place. You can see him almost shaking his head in the second bottom gif, his features rife with terror. He knows what’s coming and he’s scared and he can’twon’tisn’tallowedto stop it.

All he can do is scream.

But the screams are blocked by the mouth guard….I wonder when they decided he needed the mouth guard actually. I bet it wasn’t really for Bucky, it was probably more for the Hydra people so they couldn’t hear Bucky screaming in pain
