How Heroes Handle Nazis

“The recent discussions of political violence, particularly as it relates to punching neo-Nazis, tend to center on ethical concerns and skepticism over whether or not it’s an effective tactic.

I’m not going to attempt to address the ethical question. There are reasonable arguments for both nonviolence and the use of force.

But I will say this  -  punching Nazis is absolutely an effective tactic. In fact, it’s been proved time and time again to be the most effective means of simply communicating with Nazis.”

“I just want to be sure you’ve considered all our options. Because people who shoot at you, usually wind up shooting at me too.”

I loved the brevity that Anthony Mackie brought to an otherwise intense movie. His friendship with Steve Rogers and how he made Steve’s task just that little easier with his support, was incredible to see. Anthony Mackie, with limited screen time, has brought to life a character like Falcon, which in the comics was more of a sidekick and kinda cheesy, and made it into an A-level Marvel character, with his charm and sincerity. And his absolute pride in his job and friendship with Rogers shines in the movie. Also, the ‘bird costume’ line was hilarious.

One of the many million reasons why this movie is just awesome. Anthony Mackie as Falcon.

give me complex Sam Wilson

give me a Sam Wilson who has setbacks and awful days where he can’t face the world

give me Sam Wilson who’s a goddamn professional counselor and knows better than to psychoanalyze his friends

give me Sam Wilson with a spare room and a hearty breakfast for anybody who needs it

give me Sam Wilson allowing himself one day a year to get blindingly angry about Riley’s death, allowing himself to go out and drink more than he should and maybe get in a bar fight and then walking back into work two days later with a smile on his face, because there’s nowhere to go but up

give me Sam Wilson having a hair straightener because his mom visits so often that she decided to keep one at his house

give me Sam Wilson referring the Avenger to actual mental health professionals who he knows can put up with their bullshit

give me a Sam Wilson who only took up running because he couldn’t sleep and needed a way to distract himself from the nightmares

give me Sam Wilson, afraid of heights until he could control how he got up there and how he’s getting down

give me more Sam Wilson god damn it.

Reminder that if you have a problem with queer interpretations of Captain America, that problem is NOT shared by the cast or creators, so stop projecting.

I’ve had plenty of people tell me that it’s “disrespectful” to the authors if you interpret a character as queer without a clear textual indication. But the people who actually made these characters disagree with that.

MCU Cast & Crew:

  • The Russos are cool with it and have repeatedly validated the interpretation, even noting that a lot of women who worked on the movie are invested in that relationship. (Link 1, 2, 3, 4).
  • Sebastian Stan is fine with it, and thinks it’s great that people can interpret it however they want. (Link).
  • Chris Evans says he didn’t deliberately put it into his performance, but he has no problem with it and thinks a romantic relationship “wouldn’t be so bad.” (Link).
  • Emily VanCamp was excited to hear about it, and thinks it’s great that this is a conversation we’re having about a character like Captain America. (Link).
  • Hayley Atwell is a fan of bisexual Steve Rogers, and hates pretty much every ship for Steve but Steve and Bucky. (Link 1, 2).

Comics:

  • Ed Brubaker, the man who created the Winter Soldier, not only fucking loves it, but has also been known to tweet links to Steve/Bucky fan fiction. (1, 2, 3, 4, 5).

If you have a problem with interpreting this character as anything other than heterosexual, not only is that problem yours alone, but the character’s creator thinks you’re stupid. Stop hiding behind authorial intent, and consider why it bothers you so much that someone you thought was straight might not be.

Also, Hayley ships Cartinelli. <3

shading colour tips

hey yall its me the Art Mom™ to help you shade pretty

rule 1: DO NOT SHADE WITH BLACK. EVER. IT NEVER LOOKS GOOD.

  • red- shade with a slightly darker shade of purple
  • orange- slightly darker and more saturated shade of red
  • yellow- i think like..a peach could work but make it a really light peach
  • green- shade with darker and less saturated shade of blue or teal
  • blue- shade with purple
  • purple- a shade thats darker than the purple you’re using and maybe a little pink (MAYBE blue)
  • pink- darker shade of red
  • white- a really light lavender or blue..or i guess any really light colour??
  • black- okay listen dont use pure black to colour anything unless you want to leave it with flat colours because you cant really shade black lol
  • grey- a slightly darker shade of purple or blue (less saturated)
  • brown- slightly darker and less saturated shade of purple or red

aaaaand thats all i got lol. let me know if there is anything i should add to this list!!

If you’re a visual learner…

I made some Balls of Colour to go with Art Mom™’s post:
