I like that Edwin's sexuality crisis is centered in the attraction itself and in society rather than his identity. Edwin knows he's queer in some sense- or at the very least that he falls outside of gender/sexuality norms- a century before we meet him. He's not sitting there going "am I gay? How could I be gay??" He's grappling with what that means for him and the fact that that's alright. I just like that what he discovers isn't himself so much as it's his safety in being himself yk
