When I was growing up, many of us thought the real Catholics in the community were the priests and the nuns, and the rest of us were just hanging around. But when we say that each of us is called to holiness, it means each of us has the same responsibility of taking care of the Church, and the same call to be part of the Church.

What gift do you give a God who has everything? No doubt about it, God is hard to shop for at Christmas time. Maybe that’s why he gets overlooked on many a list. First of all, God doesn’t need anything. There isn’t anything he’s run out of, or hasn’t seen in the stores, or would be surprised by. And if God has a wish list, you and I haven’t seen it. Or have we? Sometimes the gifts people give provide a clue to what they would like to receive. After all, it was God who gave the first Christmas gift, two thousand years ago. He wrapped his divine son in flesh and blood like ours and gave him to all of us. […] Surely, God’s gift to us at Christmas provides the best hint about what to give him in return. In giving Jesus God gave us himself, and that is what God wants us to give him – ourselves. Your self is the only gift God will not have if you do not give it to him.

Modern technology does not replace our need to gather together as faith communities in liturgy and other settings, but it offers great benefit in the sharing of faith experiences and the forging of friendships rooted in Christian good will. Who better to take the lead in using technology for the proclamation of the Gospel than our youth?

Archbishop Gomez and the Pope discuss... tweeting?

Gotta love it.

At St. Peter's Basilica on Wednesday, church leaders and the faithful from around the world, including hundreds of LA area residents gathered to see Pope Benedict confer a special vestment, called a pallium, on newly appointed metropolitan archbishops, including LA Archbishop, Jose Gomez.
"He asked me where I was from and I said Los Angeles California, He opened his eyes really wide and said, 'a very important archdiocese,'" according to Archbishop Jose Gomez.

Pope Benedict made history yesterday by becoming the first pope to tweet.
"I heard that, yeah," says Archbishop Gomez. "I was about to talk to him about tweeting, because now I have a Facebook page, so I said maybe we should talk about it, but I didn't have time."
Speaking of the Archbishop's Facebook page, he proudly posted a photo of himself with the pope shortly after the historic moment took place. (read the rest, with video)

Nice. For the record, here's the archbishop's Facebook page and here's the Pope's tweet.

What would you talk to the Pope about?
