The Hybrid would stand over the ruins of Gallifrey and unravel the Web of Time, breaking a billion hearts to heal its own...
Together and united, the two halves are home. Chaos will reign should one half find themselves alone.

(from jody houser’s doctor who: the thirteenth doctor year 2 #3, w/ art by roberta ingranata)
This is all that remains of our home. Our people. Every ancestor - all one dust. I didn’t know - I’m so sorry. They died unwitnessed. Unsaved. We were too late to grieve or honor them.
Doctor Who Season 11, “The Demons of the Punjab”.
#me after finishing most of the shows/movies that everyone is obsessed with
me talking about Jodie Whitaker doctor who: yeah 13 isn’t my favorite doctor, the writing could be a lot better and I’m not really into these storylines
me when a smug man starts talking about how much he hates Jodie Whitaker doctor who:
It’s really fascinating how different the Doctor reacts to the Dalek vs how she reacts to a lone Cyberman. They’ve been fighting both almost as long as they remembered being the Doctor.
The Daleks isn’t a raw nerve for the Doctor, not as much as the Cybermen have become. It’s a far cry from how Nine even fondly recalls an old Mondasian Cyberman.
Nine is almost nostalgic and fond (if that’s the right word for it). Also, GAH what poignant way to show the passage of time.
It’s so interesting how Nine and Thirteen’s reactions are reversed. Nine’s reaction to the Dalek is more of a raw nerve, and Thirteen’s reaction to seeing a Cyberman again is almost akin to how Nine reacted. The difference time makes, after all the major loses. Daleks have become almost routine for the Doctor, so much so that Twelve can casually stride into a scene of open conflict with a Dalek (Pilot).
And then the unthinkable happens to Bill Potts and the switch is reversed for the Doctor. The raw nerve has now transferred to the Cybermen.
(And my favorite thing to do in this rewatch: compare and contrast!).
The parallels here, Nine just lost his whole world and culture to the Daleks, meanwhile for Thirteen the Time War was millennia away from her, her loss of Gallifrey is more complicated this time around but losing Bill Potts? That is a new raw nerve the Doctor’s never sat down and properly processed.
Just as like Nine didn’t give himself an opportunity to sit down and properly process the Time War… not until the Doctor becomes Twelve.
The look on their faces on the last screencap.
The Same Doctor, just a Different Casing.
