“This was the most physically taxing of all the film because of the lightsaber duels. Everytime I wasn’t shooting, I was rehearsing. Something that took weeks and weeks to shoot, even though it only lasts a few minutes on film. So it taxed me to the limit.”

Important relevant thoughts courtesy of twitter

I studied fashion for years solely to answer this question:

-Fitted t-shirts (notice how his collar and sleeves are snug against the body and not loose while also not being too tight; chest/shoulder/torso measurements really matter)

-Flare bottom/bell bottom/wide fit jeans (loose leg jeans emphasise a smaller waist, which combined with fitted t-shirts gives a lot of 70s dudes the illusion of the ideal powerful twink body)

-Medium length hair and bangs/fringe and feathered hair for masc people (pulling the hair back and away from the face emphasises angular facial structure and gives masc people a mature look, while bobbed haircuts that frame the face and cover the forehead gives a younger look; hair feathering created a feel of energy and brightness)

Voila, you have a good 70s boy right there if you follow the above instructions.

I went all through the notes to find the post I wanted to reblog and boom here it is. Also this training is for The Empire Strikes Back, which was filmed in 1979-80 and released in May of 1980. The person in the notes who said “I’m glad bell bottoms didn’t cut back” is a bit mistaken because they did come back somewhat, as “extra wide boot cut flares”. I adore his scruffy hair here, and his cowboy boots with heels and his arrrrrrrrms.

Mark Hamill is like the Tony Hawk of cartoon voice actors; in spite of the fact that he’s been doing it for decades and has played some of the most well known characters in some of the most popular shows around, everybody is still absolutely flummoxed to learn that their favourite character was voiced by Mark Hamill.

I am beside myself with this information. Absolutely dumbfounded. Spent my lunch break nearly crying in confusion and/or relevation reading a wikipedia article

I think my favourite is the short where Joker (voiced by Mark Hamill) teams up with the Trickster (voiced by Mark Hamill) to kidnap famous voice actor Mark Hamill (voiced by Mark Hamill), only for the villainous duo to be defeated by Swamp Thing (voiced by Mark Hamill).

C'mon man, you gotta at least share it!

Literally I’ve seen this post so many times and only now having watched the short do I also know that Mark Hamill assists in his own rescue by doing the voices of the Joker and Trickster to trick them into fighting and driving onto grass where Swamp Thing can capture them.

one day, hollywood will cast a reasonable, down-to-earth person to play the joker. just a normal guy with a sensible separation between his identities on and off the screen

“yeah, it’s a fun role. I really get to chew the scenery, which is not the kind of part that I normally do, so I enjoy the change of pace”, he opines, probably while holding a cute dog

yep.

Ok, but in Carrie’s book, she definitely mentions more than one occasion when Mark showed up unannounced at Harrison’s early in the morning when Carrie was just there and they were clearly not having a breakfast hang out and Mark was just like “hey guys let’s hang”, and also Mark followed their car while they were making out and honked at them and was like “oh hey wow, we’re all heading to the same place! let’s all go eat together!”

The real victory here is knowing that Mark Hamill was good enough friends his co-stars to randomly show up at their houses uninvited to hang out and get food while simultaneously being too self absorbed to notice anything

“I still have to go over and do [Episode IX],” Hamill said. “Most of the parts I have coming up beside Star Wars are voiceover — there’s one big one, very high profile, I can’t announce now, that I’m really excited about. You know how it is these days, every time you sign NDAs. I remember back when I read the first Star Wars [script], I was like, ‘Wow, that’s the goofiest thing I’ve ever read.’ I gave it to my best friend to read, and I said, ‘What do you think of it?’ He said, ‘It’s really wild, it’s crazy, can I give it to Meredith?’ ‘Sure, go ahead.’ It went around to all my friends. Of course back then nobody cared. Nowadays it’s like working for some secret deep state government organization, like being in the CIA. They’re going to send rewrites over to Prague on this dark red paper that gives you a headache to read.”

The dark red pages were previously used on The Force Awakens. EW’s Star Wars reporter Anthony Breznican pointed out that they hinder copying since a photocopier will render dark red pages as black and unreadable. Yet script security measures have even tightened since the last movie. During filming for The Last Jedi, Hamill noted he was allowed to keep a paper script. Not so for the Episode IX.

“They’re going to fly [the rewrites] over with somebody from the company,” Hamill said. “They’re going to come and give it to me and wait for me to read it before I give it back. So no pressure! You can’t even keep it overnight. But that’s the way it is now.”

“I like to make notes, little cartoon drawings in the margins to help me visualize it … whatever you have to do to help remember it,” Hamill said. “You can’t do that in electronic form, it’s so impersonal. I’m old school and long for the days of paper scripts. They wound up letting me keep a script when we were doing [The Last Jedi], but I had to lock it up in a safe every night and then carry it with me and never let it out of my sight. And I can understand why — if [a script] gets out it ruins it for everyone.”

Hamill said he spent about a week on Episode IX previously and will return for more shooting amid his Knightfall schedule.
