I love the kind of ML Hua Cheng is. I’ve seen enough of MLs in CDramas who are wiling to sacrifice their relationship with the FL for the gReAtEr GoOd and their kingdom. Who are willing to put the welfare of people before the heart of the FL.

OK I don’t see anyone else mentioning this, so I’m going to. That was an absolutely a perfect set up with that parallel between San Lang’s fight with Lang Qianqiu and his fight with Qi Rong.

During the fight at the Gambling den, Qianqiu lifts a huge DENSE table and hurls it towards Hua Cheng. Hua Cheng effortlessly halts it in midair, CRUSHES it into splinters, then converts the shards of wood into a new weapon to launch at Qianqiu.

The fight between Hua Cheng and Qi Rong. Qi Rong kicks the bound statue of Xie Lian at him.

It’s familiar. We saw this before. There’s an expectation that Hua Cheng is going to throw it back (using it as a weapon redirected back at his attacker.), or that he’s going to crush it and launch the stone shards back at Qi Rong. It’s surprising when he does neither.

Hua Cheng carefully seems to slow it and catches it with his own hands. He didn’t even bother to actually touch the desk he launched at Qianqiu. He did it all with the flick of his hand. But the statue of Xie Lian, he catches it. Then he takes a couple steps to move it out of his path to protect it from the coming fight and gently sets it down.

That showed so much care and consideration. He wasn’t going to use Xie Lian as a tool to be used in a fight. Despite how much Xie Lian might view himself as such. Hua Cheng showed he wouldn’t even use something that bares his likeness as a tool. He showed Xie Lian and the statue such respect. He was gentle with it.

The love displayed in that action alone was beautiful.



”Hua Cheng would never bottom” are you high. Are you on drugs. What is it you smoke. Is it crack? Weed? Coke? Are you huffing glue? Are you on mushrooms? Xie Lian could politely go ‘I think I wanna top tonight’ in passing conversation and that man (ghost?) would go ‘Ok Gege :D I love you’ and then he’d happily get his back blown out, and he’d be arching the whole time. I know him personally so I can vouch. Get your act together.

Something about the whole "Eming is born of Hua Cheng's desire to live and Rouye is born of Xie Lian's desire to die," and then how Xie Lian wears funeral colours and Hua Cheng wears wedding colours. God oriented towards death and stillness and self-denial. Ghost oriented towards life and hope and happiness.

I love how this episode basically was:

Feng Xin: I can fix xie lian.

Mu Qing: I could fix xie lian but what's going on is way more interesting.

Hua Cheng: "i can fix xie lian" yeah? Well, I could accept him as he is. You don't like the murder? Grow up. The atrocities are part of him.

+ bonus:

Ranking power levels of the main MXTX couples is kind of funny to me, because I don't really see the point generally, because (there's no real reason for any of them to fight and) they're each working on completely different world-builds with slightly different genre rules. Also, even so, it seems relatively clear to me at first glance? (Obviously, this is all personal opinion.)

Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian are powerful and skilled cultivators, but still human, as is Shen Qingqiu. Wei Wuxian is probably the most "powerful" of the three of them due to sheer cleverness and destructive potential, able to raise armies of the dead and all that, though at great personal cost. But in any given fight, you generally just have to stab or hit someone once in the right place, so Lan Wangji and Shen Qingqiu are also able to potentially take on far more "powerful" opponents if they target weak spots quickly enough. Everything depends on circumstances.

Luo Binghe is interesting because, while he's able to be killed, he is an incredibly powerful cultivator and also descended from demons who "fell from the heavens". I tend to think of him as a "demi-god" of sorts and I figure it's potentially within his capability to challenge actual gods. The world of SVSSS is not the same as PIDW, so I am not counting "Protagonist Halo" as particularly relevant, but the fact that actual mountains and hellish abysses are getting shifted around in SVSSS using the Xin Mo sword is very relevant here.

I think cultivators like Lan Wangji, Wei Wuxian, and Shen Qingqiu are definitely in with a shot against someone like Luo Binghe if they're sufficiently clever/lucky and the heavenly demon in question is sufficiently unstable/unlucky. (See: the sealing of Tianlang-Jun, Luo Binghe's birth father.) Especially Wei Wuxian, with the potential armies of the resentful dead (which he probably doesn't want to do) and all of the other inventions of new forms of cultivation that he can do. (All of these characters are HAPPILY MARRIED NOW, they don't want to fight, leave them ALONE.)

Hua Cheng and Xie Lian are so incredibly fuck-off powerful and skilled that the sheer difference in ass-kicking abilities is actually incredibly funny. Do I think that Luo Binghe armed with the Xin Mo sword could give gods and ghost kings a lot of trouble? Sure. Do I think that Demon Emperor Bing-Ge could make the heavens shake? Yes. Do I think that Luo Binghe would ultimately win that fight? No. Hua Cheng picks fights with gods and ruins their fucking lives for funsies, essentially, and I like to imagine Xie Lian snapping the Xin Mo sword in half with his bare hands because it's funny to me.

Not going to lie, if I was in the Heaven Official's Blessing universe I would worship Xie Lian only because he is pretty but I'd get banned from his shrine immediately because I'd pray to hit that. ☠️ Imagine our boy finally getting followers but only because they want to fuck him, he'd die again.
