also you know what? I’ve seen a few of those stories where fierce and mysterious Yiling Patriarch demands a spouse in exchange for winning the war against the Wens, and Lan Wangji is either picked or volunteers as one of the eligible few, and i love that trope so much.
But now I kind of want one where Nie Huaisang gets picked instead.
Nie Huaisang, first husband of the Burial Mounds. Where his talents at tracking birds and painting and knowing how to slack off creatively are appreciated by Wei Wuxian and the Wens. He gets to know the Wens, too, and can report back to Nie Mingjue (who is about as livid that his little brother was married off to save the world as you can imagine) that maybe things aren’t so black and white following the war as he wants to think.
I just think that Wei Wuxian would fall in best-friends with his erstwhile husband, having another partner in crime when Wen Qing is glaring at him.
and when word comes in that Nie Mingjue is desperately ill from a qi deviation, Nie Huaisang can have Wei Wuxian (who doesn’t trust Nie Mingjue, but trusts Nie Huaisang) help as they try to figure out the mystery of why Nie Mingjue tends to get so ill after a visit by Jin Guangyao…
is there anything quite like realizing that strict warrior clan leader nie mingjue is a sensitive jock who cries whenever he has an emotion, and that his delicate little brother who makes a scene whenever hes mildly inconvenienced is absolutely stone cold and none of the people who pride themselves on reading emotions realize hes full of unrelenting murderous rage for like a solid decade. kings both of them
perhaps before Nie MingJue passed away, Nie HuaiSang really knew nothing. But after Nie MingJue’s death, he knew everything.
Can't believe my hatred for JGY went up another notch.
“no matter what you want to do, dage will protect you” shut up shut up shut up shut up i’m sad
I made this image of A-Yuan for my story ‘The Last Wen’.
