toph learned both english and mandarin because the beifongs wanted her to learn something other than her mother tongue. but the ppl teaching her english was hella lazy so she didn't learn as much. but she learned the basics like how to say her name, her age, how she's feeling, etc. like she can keep up a decent conversation.
but she has trouble with her pronunciation, plurals, and articles. and SHE DOES NOT ADMIT THAT SHE NEEDS HELP. katara tried helping her with english a few times but toph always denied needing help. sokka & aang also tried to help, but again, toph.
then she met zuko, who just happens to be multilingual, speaks to toph in mandarin. and then he does manage to help toph with her english.
and in return, toph teaches the rest of team avatar how to speak mandarin (she taught them how to say swear words and thats it 😭)
IM OBSESSED WITH THIIIIIISSSSS. no you don’t understand this made my evening 😭 esp the last paragraph that’s so Toph it’s visceral. Anyway one of my favourite hcs from you specifically is the languages they speak, idk why but it sits so right with me.

ok so I might just get bitten for this but I’m sorry the amnesia/hEAVY angst trope. like yessss I knowww flwogb but darlings, I physically cannot bring myself to read such intense, vomit inducing, eye twitching, nail bitingly vicious angst on purpose. idk maybe I’m just a freak but I read fanfic to make my characters happy and there is a LINE 😭😭
anyway yeah like angst is great but there are only so many dark fics I can take before I’m like: ok are these the same characters or am i just sleep deprived

oooh lord ok so first off no disrespect to the shippers but it’s gonna be tyzula. like I 110% get why people ship it, and don’t get me wrong it isn’t an inherently bad ship but just…ugh idk. the way azula treats Ty lee (or anyone for that matter) should never be romanticised and honestly I don’t think Ty Lee ever even liked her, she was afraid of her. (that was azulas whole spiel) what made me start hating it was definitely the fact that I saw so many people portraying downright toxic and abusive dynamics (fanart, fanfics) as the ‘ideal’ and ‘not problematic’ which? I mean each to their own but it makes me SUPER uncomfortable. Anyway yeah if you ship it I literally don’t care you do you but there are too many red flags and sirens for meee x

ooooh okay well I haven’t actually seen enough of his character canonically (I love fanfic but idk if it’s characterised as consistently as it could be for me to make a judgement 😭) but so far I think he’s just a cutie. like, do I (and this is where I get in trouble lol) think he is the best love interest for Nico? From where I am right now… like, kinda? Idk he’s cute and I think his attitude definitely fits nicos self deprecating vibe but idk if he’d be my first choice. as a character by himself though I think he’s super cool. (also. I’d literally love to have Apollo as my godly parent so I can’t help but feel a teeeensy bit jealous of him)

Unconventional
-sokka fidgets. like a lot. but the way he does is by biting his nails so zuko bought him beads and necklaces and just jewellery in general so he could play with that instead of destroying his fingers.
-zuko has like no spacial awareness at all (he’s literally blind in one eye) so sokka always has a hand on his back or arm to make sure he doesn’t crash into anything 😭
-zuko has trouble staying on top of his work and is constantly complaining about needing a clearer schedule so sokka just, invents highlighters and comes to zuko one day like: here you go babe now you can colour code your schedule 😊 and zuko’s like: what the fuck

-another one by my friend @kiki-strike: a long post which you can find if you scroll through my ask tag about zuko’s relationship with his scar and how sokka finds a way to be tender and gentle with him (like, touching it) without freaking him out. (seriously this is such a tender sweet head canon and I still think about it to this day.
-not sure where it came from but the hc that sokka and zuko can’t take showers together because one setting is in the pits of hades and the other is the literal icy tundras.
Original, but less odd
-sokka is a sleep wrestler and at first zuko thinks it’s because he’s just. like that. but after sokka starts talking in his sleep about ‘I need to save them.’ ‘I’m strong enough.’ then zuko’s like: oh. oh his failure complex is on even in his sleep. so next time it happens he wordlessly just pulls sokka close and strokes his hair until he’s still. (it takes Sokka a few weeks to figure out why he’s suddenly sleeping so well.)
-the first time sokka says I love you is when they’re lounging in zuko’s chambers and it’s late there’s dim candlelight and zuko is laughing at something stupid sokka said. so sokka tries to say I love you but gets whacked in the face with a bottle (zuko flails) so when he gets to the sick bay and zuko is tending to his bruise saying shit like ‘I’m so dumb I’m so sorry’ sokka just, blurts it out. (a true display of zuko being authentic zuko, not hiding behind a cold unfeeling mask, but always looking out for others and caring for them. that’s the zuko who sokka loves, so he told him then.)
-the first time zuko says I love you is when sokka is painting, and he comes over to bring him tea and sokka gets startled and just, spills his tea all over himself and his painting and he stands up too quickly to get a towel so he slips on the spilled tea on the floor and now he’s ass first on the ground just laughing, wide and unapologetic and that’s when zuko says it. (a true display of sokka being authentic sokka, not trying to prove his worth or be more of a man or be anything other than himself. that’s the sokka that zuko loves, so he told him then.)
another 90s hc but can work with any au: toph and katara was on the news twice. one was bc toph and katara was scamming. the way sokka found was bc aang called him at like twelve in the morning. no hello, just "JAISUSUW SOKKA YOUR SISTER AND TOPH IS IN JAIL" sokka thinks it's a prank but aang was literally yelling and shaking in the phone so sokka knew it wasn't a prank anymore.
the other time was when they were getting interviewed for mall bans in their area, and katara and toph goes on a whole ass rant bc they love the mall. it was so many censors.

So, domestic Zukka? I have an idea, actually!! What about Zuko surprising Sokka by wearing a traditional Southern Water Tribe outfit or a Fire Nation one but all in Water Tribe colors? He'd be like "Sokka, look. I have a surprise for you." and then he gets all flustered when he sees that his boyfriend is wearing traditional Fire Nation clothing (or again, Southern Water Tribe stuff but in Fire Nation colors).
I'd love to see this idea coming alive with your skillful hands, but if it not, I'll be quite happy with any other scenario you come up with!! ☺️

HELLOOOAKOAAIIUNAUISUUKAKHUA SORRY IT TOOK ME LITERAL MONTHS TO ANSWER THIS BUT HJSGHJSUKHSUKH. anyway, so. as much as I would love to draw this I have not in fact picked up a stylus since like. last week, so I don’t have anything to give you right now. But!!!! I will absolutely draw this at some point but I nEEDED to get this out of my ask box cuz. it’s just. too good.
Zuko is a Man Of The People. so he takes culture suuuuuuper seriously so I can 100% see him doing this. And Sokka is kinda not expecting him to even acknowledge his culture since he was raised in a super imperialist it’s all about me country but when Zuko proves to not only wear his cultural clothes but also eat the food, craft the weapons, learn the practices and ways of life, Sokka is just like: oh. oh I picked a good one.
tgis can apply for the 90s au or any au but Mai, Suki, and Zuko is getting ready for the goth club, and theyre getting ready in sokka's dorm. sokka isnt annoyed by it but he asks why they always get ready in his dorm, and mai is like "you got a bigger mirror."
they manage to convince sokka to go to the goth club with them but since sokka doesn't have a lot of black clothing, he borrows zuko's.
when they get to the club, sokka sees his friends goth dancing and he's just standing on the side. zuko comes up to him and sokka's like "how do I dance like you guys?" zuko is just like "just feel the music and dance"
zuko tells him to just move his shoulders to start off. sokka moves his shoulders and smiles at zuko while he steps into the crowd. he looks drunk, and zuko facepalms.
cut to a couple of hours later. suki, mai, and zuko is sitting at a booth. they see a big circle and they think a fight is happening. they stop and think that sokka's in the fight so they rush towards the circle, pushing people away. they get to the center and sokka is poorly trying to breakdance 😭
the crowd is just hyping him up like sokka is fucking getting it. the group ends up leaving the club like a couple hours later. they're impressed. suki asks how did he get a crowd? sokka is like 'i felt the music'
