really love dynamics that are like 'it honestly doesn't matter if you view them as romantic or platonic, the point is that they love each other. the type of love is inconsequential, all that matters is that it's there'. gotta be one of my favorite genders.

Great question, Anon!

As many of you know, I am very against an adult/darker version of HOA, mostly because I’m sick and tired of how teenagers are sexualized and portrayed in the media. Also because the last thing this show needs is another remake.

However, if the English version of Anubis was only just now being adapted in 2022 on Nickelodeon, here are some things that I think would have been different:

  • There would likely be way more diversity. Not that HOA isn’t already quite diverse, but I think there would have been more effort into putting characters of color into the story.
  • I also think they may have dipped their toes into LGBTQ+ themes. There were hints of that already peppered throughout the series (both the remakes and the original), so I think they’d probably try to lean more into it.
  • They may have also mentioned mental health a little more. Not in great detail since it’s Nickelodeon, but they’d probably touch on it a bit more than they do in canon (i.e. not much at all)
  • SOCIAL MEDIA!! There would be a way bigger presence of social media in these kids lives. I can see that having a major impact on certain plot points. Maybe Amber’s a beauty guru on YouTube/TikTok! Joy has legions of Twitter fans! Idk but it’d be so fun to see that.
  • Fashion would also be majorly different. You know Amber and Patricia would follow all sorts of micro trends but from different sides of the social media. It would just be wildly different than the 2010s fashion.
  • I wonder if they’d mention the pandemic! Probably not, but there’s always a chance. Maybe we find out that COVID was actually unleashed because Alfie touched some ancient artifact he wasn’t supposed to and brought down the wrath of the gods on the planet.
  • The subject of abuse might also be brought up, but again since it’s Nickelodeon, it won’t be in major detail. But I don’t think they’d just brush over it like they did if it was being made today.

Essentially I want what we already have but just updated to be more modern. I have no desire for the crazy shit that they do on Euphoria, or Elite, or something to ever touch Anubis. The Anubis kids act their age, and that’s where the charm is.
