Take to the Skies - 7/?

~.*.~.*.~

I’m sorry this has taken so long to update. I’ve just moved in with my boyfriend, and I’m finally trying to dip my toe back into writing.

… She was staring again. The little girl with auburn hair and lime green eyes. Link was fairly sure he’d caught her staring quite a few times before. She was the daughter of the city’s top healer, from what he’d heard, which meant she’d pass through here every single day. Normally she’d be here with her father, or at least with a small group of friends. Why was she alone today, of all days?

“Oh, don’t pay her any mind,” Silas scoffed. “No need to be so embarrassed. She likes to watch everyone when they’re training.”

“Why’s that?” Orville questioned, his head tilted to one side. Silas merely rolled his eyes, as if the answer was the simplest thing in the world.

“Because,” he stressed, “we nobles always watch the page boys and the squires while they’re training!”

Link squinted his eyes as he took in Silas’ words. He wasn’t blind to the goings-on around him, and neither was Orville. They perfectly understood that such things did happen. After all, random members of nobility poked their heads in to observe their shenanigans, well, every day. At least, that was how it felt.

Ok so eyes :D they tell you so much from a person the emotions they go through, connections and so forth. Its all here to see but one thing that I like to think is the mark of the chosen along with shining bright and being “pure” in a sense also burns, aches, irritates to a point  that its unbearable and a simple vision/dream  can trigger it. A lot of Hylians are chosen by farore and bear her mark and only the devote and pursuers of divine wisdom and the lost text are marked by Nayru/Hylia. Dins is more rare these days but still around, being marked by all of them which is usually the triforce mark or some form of gold.

This goes off track but when I made the deities I have them to say that yes hylians  pray to hylia of course she being their patron goddess and creator of the race. But she’s also the last of them, that’s why the belief is so strong and ingrained and set in stone. Before things change praying to multiple patron deities was very common and encouraged. The big three are always there but in more subtle ways and they cant directly change anything unless its a dire situations that even their children can’t handle.

Looking through my files for things to color, finally found the majora one and this random one but then I started adding important facts around things. Did you know that Knights were pretty violent before the whole code of chivalry depending who they worked for and are loyal to nobles are no better. Become that type of person without even realizing it can be worse even when you use the same methods to try to stop the practice and save the weak, they’ll look at you in fear. But things can change :D

... In her chosen people's darkest moment, the white goddess descended from the heavens. Her radiant harp strummed with music that stilled the battlefield, and she said simply unto her chosen people,

"My dearest Hylians. Quarrel not over such petty affairs. You have been blessed a thousand times over with gifts of fertile soil and bountiful land. You thrive within your city, and you've no worries to speak of. Please, my precious people, cease this fruitless feud.”

The goddess Hylia's words were intended to quell the anger in the hearts of men, to realize what the white goddess had given them and to be thankful for them. Yet, all the same, the peoples in the land of Hylia wound up here...

{This section will eventually be part of a larger chapter, as well. I still have yet to flesh out the full academic regimen concerning the city of Ancient Hylia, so it’s going to take a little while.}

Link groaned softly as he slumped forward in his chair. The empty classroom was lit only by a single candle, yet that did nothing to impede the boy standing over him. Silas tapped the blond's desk with a ruler, his face stiff in his best attempt at sternness.

"You have to take these lessons seriously, Link!"

"I do when an adult does the teaching," he grumbled in reply, his voice muffled as his head rested soundly in his crossed arms. "Why'd ya wake me up for this, again?"

Silas scoffed, emerald eyes rolling. "Because, you couldn't hear the goddess Hylia! So you're clearly doing something wrong!"

"I suppose." Link sighed and lifted his head, his eyebrows raised incredulously upon viewing the raven-haired boy's smug grin. Silently, Silas dug out his copy of the Historia, and he flipped to the centerpiece of one of last week's sermons.

"Now, since you obviously haven't been paying attention for a while, let's start you off easy with the lessons from the week before. Now, Link, please turn to page fifty-eight."

With a slow nod, the blond grunted and turned to the same page, to which Silas wasted no time in imitating Mother Aleesha to the best of his ability.

"As we beseech the goddess Hylia's blessings, we Hylians must turn to her teachings as a paragon of morality. Take, for instance, when she entrusted her most powerful and oldest disciples with..."

{This will be part of a larger chapter, eventually. For right now, this is all I have concerning this particular part.}

Celine darted her head about, a pout evident on her face. Everyone in the courtyard was frozen in place- The trainees, the nobility, the entire class! She glanced up to Mother Aleesha for guidance. Yet, the stone-faced Mother Aleesha... was weeping.

The girl's lime eyes shot open at the sight; and for a moment, she too was locked in place, too shaken to disturb whatever had moved her teacher to tears.

After a deafening eternity of silence, Mother Aleesha finally spoke.

"The white goddess has blessed us..."

She spoke in a cracked whisper, just loud enough for the eight-year-old to hear. Celine tilted her head, brows scrunched as she asked,

"Did she say something?"

A collective gasp fell over the courtyard. Suddenly, Celine could feel all eyes on her, yet she couldn't fathom why. Mother Aleesha's face had gone pale, her sunken eyes bugged out as she leered at the bewildered child.

"You... didn't hear the goddess Hylia?"

I’ve been meaning to write this story for a long time. I always wanted to write about the life of Hylia’s Chosen Hero, because I wondered what led up to the state we first see him in in the manga.

This is a massive work in progress, because I’m honestly trying to get back into writing and I haven’t been 100% for a while, and it’ll be posted out of order until I can compile all my thoughts and polish the work. I hope you find some enjoyment out of it.

...

“Hey, uncle?”

Jiro chuckled as he eyed the young blond, who was hopping up and down on the ledge of the workbench. The man struck the molten metal again, a small chuckle leaving him.

“What is it, Link?”

“When am I gonna learn cool sword stuff?”

“What ever do you mean?”

Link stretched out a groan and clarified. “You know, what you’re doing! The, uh, the smiting!”

“The term is ‘smithing,’ my boy.” Jiro chuckled once again, and he set the forming blade back into the kiln to heat. He walked up to the boy and patted him on the head, leather work gloves adding weight to the gesture. “You’ll learn when you’re older.”

“But how much older?” Link replied with a pout, eyes of ice staring up at his uncle. “I’m already seven. I’m like, halfway to adulthood!”

I have a whole lot of headcanons about this man, but for the sake of it I’m gonna put it all under the cut.

Chosen - Hylia’s Champion

He was a means to an end.

Hylia watched her champion closely, sky blue eyes locked on his. The man's expression was one of bitterness. He resented her. He resented her crimson guardian. He resented those around him. Perhaps above all else, however, he resented himself.

The goddess cared not for his resentment. All that mattered to her was his compliance. He was to fight for her. He was to save her people. That much was preordained by the golden goddesses. That much she was absolutely certain of.

The loftwing beside her scoffed and rustled his majestic feathers. The small group of soldiers had long set their weapons down, yet still they showed apprehension at the sight of the two enormous birds. All, of course, except for her champion. He alone looked her directly in the eyes, his gaze hardened by all that he had experienced before.

Perfect. A man of true courage. One without fear, without inhibition.

With little more than a serene hum, the goddess Hylia shed her avian form and assumed that of her chosen people. Her luscious, pure white feathers transformed into a simple gown, her now platinum blond hair covered with a feathered, hooded cloak. Despite her transformation, her large wings still remained beneath her shoulder blades. Her cheeks were plump, her lips thin. Eyebrows were sparse, and eyes were as large and as wide as an owl's. The Hylians before her watched the goddess in awe, mouths hung open as they witnessed such a display.

"I am the white goddess, Hylia," she stated simply. Her tone was soft, yet flat. Not a hint of inflection, not a sign of true emotion. "What you see before you is a loftwing. He is my guardian, my most loyal servant. A bird of the gods."

The party of men was taken aback by her words, wide eyes meeting hers and whispered shouting reaching her long, narrow ears.

“The goddess?"

“It's Hylia's guardian goddess!"

“You almost shot the goddess, you fool!"

Her guardian turned up his beak at the feeble display, his disdain made clear as his deep voice boomed throughout the massive fort. "Our search is in vain, Hylia," he jeered. "They are so fearful that they cannot tell gods from demons! That is how useless these humans are."

Hylia noticed her champion steeling at the loftwing's remarks. He was grinding his teeth, his bony hands balled up into fists. Frail as he was, she had no doubt of the resolve that lay within. Yet, she did nothing to silence her crimson companion, nor to bring comfort to the men before her. Intervention would do nothing if she was to study the chosen hero's actions up close.

Her guardian's golden eyes narrowed as he surveyed the crowd before them, only to soon rest them back on her.

"The one I seek will not be found here in this lower world."

Hylia had already found the one they both sought. Their arrival was merely a formality, a small test to observe her champion's actions up close. Troublesome as it was, humans always carried a quality of unpredictability to them.

Suddenly, in a display of power, the loftwing let out a screech and spread his majestic crimson wings before the startled crowd.

"I seek someone able to fight the demon king alongside me! Someone worthy to be my rider!"

Though there were many surrounding the goddess and her bird, all was silent. Not a soul dared to move. Not one person had dared to speak.

Only one man stepped forward, his expression as cold as his icy blue eyes.

“'Useless?'" he spat back at the white goddess. Hylia was unfazed by his callousness, merely listening with careful intent. "You gods and your sacred birds watched as this land was slowly destroyed, yet we are useless? Year by year, piece by piece, I had watched and heard the peoples surrounding us fall to the demon king. And yet, why is it only now, when your supposed 'chosen people' are endangered, that you finally intervene?"

“You dare to speak to the goddess in such an impudent tone?!" the loftwing shouted. With a shake of the head, she raised a hand, and the goddess bird silenced himself.

She had no answer for his question. The goddesses had deemed that this would be the only time to truly counter the demon king. Had she attempted before, she surely would have failed, for her champion wasn't yet ready to wield the holy weapon she was due to bestow to him. Of course, the human would never understand the wills of the gods.

Hylia's calm expression never faltered, and it was after a moment that her champion finally eyed her guardian. "If you seek souls to fight alongside you, we are here, loftwing."

"And who are you to speak with such indignance?" her companion sharply questioned. The caped man sighed through his nose, his tired eyes closing a brief moment before he eyed the bird once again.

"My name is Link. I was a knight of the land of Hylia." Link took a step forward, and two men beside him did the same. His entourage, perhaps? "We humans may seem small in the eyes of gods, but there are those who have the courage to fight."

He spoke calmly, yet Hylia could sense the anger lying just beneath. Was it towards her, her loftwing, or the circumstances surrounding him in recent events? She was uncertain, but she cared not for his plight. That was unimportant to her. His words, however… That alone was enough to tell her exactly what she needed to hear:

He will fight for her.

~.*.~.*.~

So, I have a lot of ideas for First Hero. It’s practically like... half a full story. There are still plenty of details I want to fully develop, and one of them lies in Hylia herself. She’s meant to be very logical and calculating. She’s a strict utilitarian, and initially only sees her champion as a tool, really.

She’s kinda like Fi in that she only sees things logically, and I want to give her an arc where she really learns to appreciate her chosen people and value them as individuals rather than just... Well, a group of creatures to preserve.

This is just a small sample of her initial mentality, and I hope it isn’t too scathing...
