The people who don’t like The Cruel Prince because there “isn’t ENOUGH romance” are actually insane.

If there was MORE romance, I would be dead. You’re telling me;

“By you, I am forever undone.”

“Sweet Jude. You are my dearest punishment.”

“Tell me that you hate me.”

“Kiss me until I am sick of it.”

“I want to tell you so many lies.”

“Nothing is sweeter but that which is scarce.”

You read THESE and weren’t ready to collapse right there? Holly Black was doing us a favor. We’d all be dead, I’m telling you, if there was any more than this.

I think what’s happening here is some readers (especially from TikTok) go in thinking The Cruel Prince is romantasy. So their expectation is that the romance will be the main plot

But TCP’s main plot is more about political intrigue and becoming a spy, while the romance is very much the subplot

Welcome to Faerie Land: A Guide to Holly Black’s Extended Faerie Universe

With Wicked King making the NYT Best Sellers list and more people reading The Cruel Prince/The Folk of the Air Series, I decided to make a quick guide to the other books in Holly Black’s Faerie universe. 

One of the things I love about Holly Black’s books is how they interrelate. They give you background information about the world and side characters in TCP. But it’s not necessary to read these books to understand TCP. Also, since Jude has been in Faerie for almost her entire life she sometimes brushes over certain faerie rules that new readers might not know (eg. the effects of cold iron and faerie true names). Holly Black’s earlier books lay out these rules much more effectively.

So if you’re a new reader of Holly Black’s books, welcome! I’ll try to stay away from spoilers, and I’ll add links to Goodreads for more in depth summaries. If you’re a veteran, here’s a quick review of the other books in the Faerie Universe and a little bit about how they relate to TCP.

So I thought, “When Cardan is undone, what would Jude find?”. A shabby heart; one that looks so like a cocoon just waiting to hatch. The three rings in the background also represent elements that were 'undone’. The crown, the curse, and the Greenbriar bloodline (encircled in starry branches, referencing the prophecy foretold in the stars) 🍂🍁🍂 So yeah, was all about those QON vibes….. until. NOVEMBER 24, 2020 Y'ALL. I’ve adopted this as HTKOELTHS fanart, and you can’t stop me.
