I really disagree with anyone saying that Prince Eric had a wooden character in the animated Little Mermaid movie. His personality has always been distinct, he’s adventurous, he’s deeply connected to the sea, he resists royalty, he’s determined to marry for love, he’s willing to risk his life to save the men on his ship and even his dog. He’s always been compassionate, stubborn, daring, heroic, funny and romantic - it’s only because he was given a bigger role in the remake that this now seems clearer.
“the little mermaid” is a fairy tale written by danish author hans christian andersen. the story follows the journey of a young mermaid who is willing to give up her life in the sea and her identity as a mermaid to gain a human soul. it was first published in 1837 as part of a collection of children’s fairy tales.

“You’re not getting cold fins now, are you?“
Under the sea Under the sea Darling it’s better Down where it’s wetter Take it from me Up on the shore they work all day Out in the sun they slave away While we devotin’ Full time to floatin’ Under the sea
- The Little Mermaid.
The little mermaid lifted her glorified eyes towards the sun, and felt them, for the first time, filling with tears. On the ship, in which she had left the prince, there were life and noise; she saw him and his beautiful bride searching for her; sorrowfully they gazed at the pearly foam, as if they knew she had thrown herself into the waves. Unseen she kissed the forehead of her bride, and fanned the prince, and then mounted with the other children of the air to a rosy cloud that floated through the aether.
