Sometimes I do slightly better, especially if I use better nailpolish? Amazing what a difference that makes. (shout out to @dragonsworncosmetics her stuff’s lovely and much less prone to chipping)

Vampire!Alec plot is something that deserves a ton of fanfiction and I'd read it, but it's something that I wouldn't have trusted the SHOW to talk about for any longer than they did in that single scene.

Yes, that. Much like my fondness for Clizzy. Or much of anything with Maia. (Maia is too good for that show, as witnessed by the fact that they never knew what to do with her.)

I think you make a good point here (and I ignore the canon timeline whenever possible, lmao) - but I also have a headcanon for Alec's promotion. The attack on Alicante was pretty devastating, right? Maybe it killed a whole bunch of senior, more experienced Shadowhunters - which accelerates the promotion of more minor players like Alec. (Sort of like 'Designated Survivor', or 'Johnny English' in a more lighthearted example, aha.)

oh yeah, you can definitely make it work, and that makes a lot of sense. they’re desperate for his reputation but also they just need a god-damned warm body to put in the chair

I just... don’t want to make it work? 🤷‍♀️ (New York City is their home, at least in my head. I refuse to move them too soon.) *laughs*

oh, interesting! no, there wasn't supposed to be a part two, character limit. I'm glad that our analysises match! I'm trying to write Robert accurately and that's difficult when he's so often portrayed as an outright villain.

He is, in the show, useless, but not evil. Banal, perhaps?

It’s pretty fun to write him as evil, but that is, generally, kind of a cop-out. (But if your story’s about something else, he’s a handy villain? No one likes him enough to complain or refuse to buy into the premise. Like I would probably have an easier time writing a Jonathan redemption fic than a Robert redemption fic, and Jonathan actively tried to destroy the world. 😅)

I got a comment like this on a particular trope that is either hated or loved. Getting that comment meant I did my job just right and the story was exactly what I wanted it to be- easier to love for people who don’t even like the trope.

Yeah, sometimes it is clearly a compliment. Sometimes I assume it's a compliment even if it rubs me the wrong way, but sometimes it really feels like an insult to the author's taste masquerading as a compliment, and sometimes it's difficult to tell why it hit which mark.

My first thought was shadowhunters=templars because they're holier than thou and try to control the downworld. However, I certainly see how they fit grey wardens at the same time. I guess I just have so many personal feelings about wardens (read: my first warden) that I was afraid of going down that path due to the FEELS I'd transfer on to Alec. But hey, that's exactly what I'm gonna do right now.

I do prefer the power dynamic of Warden/Mage. And the Grey Wardens are clearly up to enough shady shit for Alec to struggle against, if you still want that plot arc :D

I prefer the Grey Warden Alec because the sacrificial impulses balanced by morally questionable actions fits Nephilim so well, but the Chantry and the Clave bear more than a passing resemblance to each other, so I can see the appeal. (The power dynamic can be hard to navigate though, which again would fit the original setting to a point.)

OH, Grey Wardens to replace the Werewolves maybe? So Luke could still be a former Templar who is now a Warden and you’d get all that interesting dual-perspective going on. And Valentine is obviously a power hungry Templar then. That does work.

Seelies as the Original Elves? Immortal, weird magic, interdimensional travel?

(Does that make vampires into demons? I feel like I’ve just made vampires into demons/fade spirits. oops. sorry Raphael & Simon.)
