I'd say a solid 6, healthier than chocolate chip cookies

That was my initial thought! But then are chocolate chip cookies really any worse than donuts? And those are a perfectly standard breakfast option

10- it's got grains and fruit in it ergo it qualifies as a solid food choice
10. oatmeal is breakfast food. raisin is fruit. cookies = happiness. you win at adulting
Seven - oatmeal is a legit breakfast food and cookies are just a more portable format.
11.5. not only are you winning at life but your breakfast choice is an inspiration

I love you all very very much 😅💖

(The husband did not agree with our logic, and made fun of my breakfast choices. Silly  man.)

angelrtsy95 reblogged your post and added:

This seems like a solid 7 to me. Because yeah, you’re eating cookies, but:
a) they’re pretty much the healthiest kind of cookie
b) basically no child is going to be reaching for oatmeal raisin cookies no matter what time of day it is
c) this is a portable bowl of oatmeal, which is a totally adult kind of breakfast
d) if you made the cookies yourself, that’s at least a couple of adulting points right there for safe (-ish) and successful (-ish) use of assorted semi-dangerous kitchen stuff

I did not make the cookies myself, whoops. (I did roast veggies for dinner yesterday though, so that felt like Very Successful Adulting. *laughs*)

Autumnyte’s Box o’ Comfort & Cheer Follower Appreciation Giveaway

I’ve noticed that the weeks following the holiday season tend to be rough on a lot of people. In my part of the world, there are still months of winter left to go, only without the excitement of the holidays to punctuate them. For a lot of us, this means short days, long nights, icy roads, chapped lips and trying to stay cozy while waiting for the spring to arrive.

Even for those who live in warmer climates, or who enjoy the cold, I still think it’s an excellent time of year to indulge in comfort. To that end, I’ve put together three identical boxes to give away, each filled with BioWare-related goodies and some of my favorite winter treats.

WHAT’S IN THE BOX?

  • A plush mabari and plush nug to snuggle
  • N7 and Kirkwall mugs, filled with six assorted packets of Land o’ Lakes Cocoa Classics (chocolate supreme, chocolate & mint, chocolate & caramel, chocolate & french vanilla, chocolate & raspberry, and chocolate & mocha)
  • A canister of Whimsy & Spice Earl Grey Hot Chocolate Mix
  • A bag of peppermint mini-marshmallows and a bag of vanilla snowman-shaped marshmallows
  • A Thedas tea box, velvet-lined and wooden with a ceramic lid, filled with an assortment of my seasonal favorites (Bigelow Eggnogg’n, Bigelow Peppermint, and Twinings Winter Spice)
  • A Paragon Thermos and a Renegade flask—pick your poison. (Thermos “Funtainer” holds 12 ounces and keeps beverages warm or cold for up to 12 hours, flask is stainless steel and holds 6 ounces)
  • A coin pouch overflowing with chocolate sovereigns, silvers, and copper bits. (Which are actually Lake Champlain chocolate coins in dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and dark chocolate peppermint.) Isabela would definitely fight you for this booty.

RULES - PLEASE READ

  • Giveaway ends Monday, January 6, 2014 at 8:00 pm EST.
  • THREE winners will be selected using random.org’s true random number generator.
  • Up to two entries per person, one for a like, one for a reblog
  • You must already be following me at the time of this posting to qualify for the giveaway. Not trying to be mean or a hard-ass, but this is intended exclusively as a thank you for my existing followers.
  • I am willing to ship anywhere. If it turns out that a winner’s country has especially restrictive customs policies, I may need to work with you on an alternate equivalent prize.
  • The three winners will be announced and contacted via ask, and will have 72 hours to respond. In the event of no response, an alternate winner will be randomly selected.

Thank you for following me and good luck!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Actually almost literally, here.

(10 minutes? whoo!)

The 3yo didn't make it to midnight, (neither did I, technically, slight naptime, but warm 3yo sleeping on me didn't help *laughs*), but the 8yo is still awake.

By watching Slayers and The Great Mouse Detective

:D

ANYWAYS.  Same to you, it's very nice to see you about as well.

(And same to the rest of you)

*waves good night*

Oh no. I haven’t seen the finale yet.

IT MIGHT WORK FOR YOU

I mean, I am in a seriously grouchy sort of mood today.

But um.  it seemed a little wonky to me, and to be promoting some conclusions/ideals that ran a little counter to the usual subtext of the show ... though it's possible they'll subvert that with the next season (as it was a cliff-hanger), it didn't make for very good storytelling in the moment.

For me anyways.

(but hey, Colin Ferguson. The rest of the cast. Still grand.)

I mean, I'm still planning on watching next season, after all.  Just not ... completely sure they know what they're doing?  *snorts*

I’m not reblogging the current Merrill discussion going around, even though it’s interesting and I have some strong opinions about it, because I’m feeling too fuzzy to respond to it properly right now and I don’t want to clutter up the post with my rambling.

But I will say this and hope it makes some sort of sense: Merrill, to me, is a character who was never completely done justice by the game itself. Not by the limited narrative glimpses presented, nor by the small range of choices Hawke had in interacting with her. I find both her friendship and rivalry frustrating and unsatisfying in their own ways. I absolutely adore Merrill, and there were some amazing aspects to her writing and story arc, but in the end, it felt to me like TPTB wanted desperately to shove her in a box into which she wouldn’t quite fit.

Which is not to say that Merrill’s perfect or even necessarily right. I’m not implying she didn’t make mistakes and bad decisions. She can be prideful and even cocky. But I think the player was deprived of having the full context of her choices. Everything in the game says that blood magic is bad and that demons are never helpful, and the only counterpoint we have to this is Merrill’s own assertions about Dalish history, which are questionable given that she is biased and that Marethari disagrees. (But what if Marethari was the wrong one, and had simply been sipping the broader human culture’s kool-aid? That possibility is not even given.) Based on the information presented, there’s no scenario under which Merrill’s using blood magic and attempting to restore the mirror can be 100% supported by Hawke as a wise and proper thing to do. I’m not talking about player headcanon, I’m talking about the dialogue options given when discussing these things with Merrill.

I realize Merrill’s story is supposed to be a tragedy. And knowing now that the writers supported the rivalmance, it’s also clear that they ultimately believed Merrill’s actions were wrong. But IMHO, they never effectively showed us why. From what we saw of Morrigan and Eluvians in DAO, and from what we know of blood magic elsewhere, it shouldn’t necessarily have been a given that Merrill was doomed to fail.

I just wish there had been a bit more nuance presented, similar to the way Anders was handled. I wish we’d been given any evidence that Merrill might not have been wrong, because other lore bears this out. I wish Hawke had an option that was a middle ground between head-patting or scolding Merrill. Questioning her choices or supporting her while also treating her like a capable, intelligent adult would have been nice.

I have to admit, sometimes when I come across a really shallow joke/interpretation about Merrill's intelligence, I am forced to acknowledge that the game itself is consistently condescending in its treatment of her, so why should I be surprised that people accepted that as how she should be treated in fandom as well?

There are flashes of brilliance and nuance, but there is, as you say, no way to address them in game, no way to respect Merrill's ability to make a choice while disagreeing with some of those choices, or to accept that it is important enough to be worth the risk to herself, but still ask her if it's worth the damage it might cause her clan, no way to discuss this different perspective on blood magic, no way to encourage the shades of grey that exist elsewhere in the lore.
