Reading Rainbow: LGBTQ Visual Novel Romances

I’ve seen a lot of interest in diverse visual novel romances lately, so I decided to make a compilation post of the Lovestruck app (iOS/Android/Amazon), which contains a variety of games with dozens of seasons of LGBTQ content.

It’s free-to-play, and the protagonist of every title is a canonically bisexual woman with a guaranteed HEA at the end of each story! However, there’s such a wide range of narratives out there that it seemed best to give each one their own description, which is sorted by genre and individual game under the cut.

MODERN MAGIC

ASTORIA FATE’S KISS: As an agent of H.E.R.A., your job is keeping the peace between the Greek gods, monsters of legend, and everyday humans in the bustle of New York City. When an unusual case lands on your desk, it’s the chance you’ve been waiting for to rise through the agency’s ranks – if you don’t lose your heart in the process.

Medusa carries the experience of centuries with her, and the burden of a god’s wrath. A gang of monsters under her command ruled New York until Perseus intervened, and she’s spent the last decade atoning for a life of blood and violence. When her sisters bring war to H.E.R.A.’s doorstep, Medusa asks for your help, and when her cold exterior falls away, a passionate affair lays in wait.

Alex Cyprin is a beloved child of Aphrodite and your direct superior at H.E.R.A. A close friendship in your youth has been kept under wraps to avoid conflicts of interest, but when an artifact of the goddess is stolen and places Olympus in danger, old feelings spark into a new romance. Falling in love with a demigod isn’t an easy path, especially when the other deities decide to intervene.

so @elfyourmother has been talking about Astoria today

and I never really did my character/routes overview posts like I meant to

or even the MAY IS ME AND I AM MAY photoset because I love May Chan so much

and maybe I should work on that?

or maybe not?

but really I have realized that I’m still upset about Cerberus?

The appeal of S1 Cerberus is adoring & adorable puppy dog eyes + BICEPS AS BIG AS YOUR HEAD

and s4 has neither puppy eyes nor biceps

and the PRIMARY CONFLICT in almost every other s2/s3 arc is just handwaved away between season

just whatever

and it doesn’t even cause the primary conflict that matches any of the other s4 conflicts?

and like I know these sentences don’t make a lot of sense because I’m trying to avoid specific spoilers

BUT I AM APPARENTLY STILL UPSET

this is part of why I never read Gangsters: In Love. Because even in the very first chapter, when you’ve picked your route, the background from before the game is different for different characters

and apparently I cannot handle divergent world-building for the world-state BEFORE THE GAME STARTS

afterwards, yes, I can handle the necessary conceit of all your other characters lives not falling apart without the MC to save them, despite the requirement of the MC’s help in their particular route

but the world needs to start the same, ykwim?
