i am so glad that i renblogged this however so long ago. i saw this post and shared it with others in mind, but now i am the one who really needs this. id like to think of this as good karma i guess

also a good list if anyone ever needs to run away from home for whatever reason.

for anybody who is scared of the depths of their trauma as a result of neglecting to deal with it for a long time, my therapist said: you don’t have to unpack it all at once. it will not overwhelm you and send you spiraling backwards into your past. it can be handled in small doses and you are equipped to take hold of it. you are much stronger than you think, you are much stronger today than your past selves. do not let buried wounds stand in the way of future possibilities.

sometimes things just won’t go well. that doesn’t mean that it’s your fault or that you aren’t good enough

“I have a story, and you guys are gonna be the first to hear it,” said Spencer to a panel on Women Breaking Barriers at the Sundance Film Festival. Fifteen months ago, Chastain approached her about doing a movie together. (The two have been good friends since they both starred in “The Help”).

“She wants to do comedies, and I wanna break out of period pieces,” she said as the crowd chuckled. “I love ’em! They’ve been kind to me! But I kinda wanna play someone who resembles me in some fashion.”

When the subject of pay equity between men and women came up, Spencer agreed wholeheartedly: “We were dropping F-bombs and getting it all out there. And then I said, ‘But here’s the thing, women of color on that spectrum, we make far less than white women. So, if we’re gonna have that conversation about pay equity, we gotta bring the women of color to the table.’ And I told her my story, and we talked numbers, and she was quiet, and she said she had no idea that that’s what it was like for women of color.”

Spencer paused as she choked up. “These are happy tears!” she assured the crowd. “I love that woman, because she’s walking the walk and she’s actually talking the talk. She said, ‘Octavia, we’re gonna get you paid on this film. You and I are gonna be tied together. We’re gonna be favored nations, and we’re gonna make the same thing.’ Fast forward to last week, we’re making five times what we asked for.”

here’s a tip: if you start dating a depressed person, don’t be surprised if they are still depressed while they are dating you. they’re not depressed because they’re single, and you are not an all-powerful cure for mental illnesses. just be there for them.

"No labels" rhetoric isolates people from their community, history and culture. It keeps people from being able to articulate themselves and ask for what they need.It promotes a false sense of unity that only serves to further the dominant classes in society. It is a lazy way of getting out of understanding and digesting complex issues.I dislike this rhetoric and approach.
