Dracula Characters: Jonathan Harker
To one thing I have made up my mind: if we find out that Mina must be a vampire in the end, then she shall not go into that unknown and terrible land alone. I suppose it is thus that in old times one vampire meant many; just as their hideous bodies could only rest in sacred earth, so the holiest love was the recruiting sergeant for their ghastly ranks.

Week one of the 2018 Month of Fear challenge: “Lies” I’m illustrating scenes from Bram Stoker’s novel, “Dracula” for this series, and with this week’s prompt, “lies”, I chose to depict the “weird sisters” (as Jonathan Harker calls them) since they appear with a mask of beauty and a false charm to lure in their victim, only revealing themselves for the bloodthirsty creatures they truly are mere moments before they strike - but by then, it’s too late…
Are you a pride and prejudice or jane eyre person? wuthering heights or sense and sensibility? dracula or frankenstein? 1984 or lord of the flies? the catcher in the rye or to kill a mockingbird?
I know what I’m about to say is peak obnoxious tumblr, but consider John Mulaney as Jonathan Harker.

One of my favorite parts of dracula is when lucy needs an emergency blood transfusion and jack starts rolling up his sleeve but then van helsing stops him and is like “no. we need to go get arthur from the other room. we need his manly blood. your wimpy nerd blood isn’t going to do anything” and jack is like “shit ur right.”
Dracula had it right; sleep all day, live alone in a castle and explode into a hundred bats to avoid social interactions.
↳ “i am all in a sea of wonders. i doubt; i fear; i think strange things, which i dare not confess to my own soul.“
Jonathan: This is the worst day of my life.
Jack: Is it because your wife was bitten by a vampire?
Jonathan: No, because it’s a little humid–of course it’s because my wife was bitten by a vampire!
moodboards: dracula
“loneliness will sit over our roofs with brooding wings.”

Dracula’s a public domain character so you’re being negligent as an author is you don’t at least consider using him in every story

She knows nothing of pain. Not as I do.
"Mina and Lucy are just besties! And when Lucy and Mina are together no one can get into the bubble. And I think, being with Mina is the only time Lucy really is completely herself, and there’s something so beautiful about when they’re together." - Jessica De Gouw
"What makes it great is the two of them being so close together and such good friends you begin to see the highlights of each character. She knows there’s something going on with Grayson and she doesn’t like it because she’s so protective of Mina […] I think the important thing to know about Lucy is… how she feels about Mina. And how her relationship with Mina shapes her […] Your friends make you want to be a better person, and I think Lucy really feels that about Mina" - Katie McGrath
there are no words to properly explain how much I hate that infernal ‘Mina is the reincarnation of Dracula’s true love/wife/whatever’ plotline – which never existed in the book (not even alluded too) & that they keep using on screen, despite the fact that it’s a complete bore next to the original story dynamics…
It’s okay, you aren’t alone.
(that’s good to know – I’m sure the idea can be used well but I did roll my eyes when I saw that the new bbc Dracula is apparently going with that plotline again... I was looking forward a new Dracula adaptation but I could do without the added romance/romantic triangle)

I really like 1992 movie but I think they should retire the idea.
(I enjoyed the movie too, I don't really like that plotline becoming a 'thing' though...)
