You all know I don’t make personal posts often, but the time has come for me to write about this person I knew in 2013/2014.

I met Sean Meehan sometime in 2013 (I don’t remember exactly when- curse you ADHD brain). Anyway, we met on a dating site and both agreed it would be a hook up and nothing more. He drove to my apartment and I consented to sex.

We then hung out for a bit and went to have sex again and this time he mentioned about not wearing a condom. I balked at this and he said it was fine because he couldn’t have kids because of having had cancer previously and the radiation left him sterile and he had been tested for std’s. Me being a very naive 22 year old at the time fell for it and let it happen even though my mental alarm bells went off and I felt a great deal of anxiety the entire time. I brushed it off, not fully realizing what had happened.

Fast forward a few months and he asked to meet up again. I agreed and this time he also did the no condom thing and I again let it happen, like an idiot. Again I felt gross and disgusting and still couldn’t put my finger on why. I have some pretty severe anxiety/guilt issues anyway so I just internalized everything. Fast forward about a year so this is 2014 he invited me to hang out with him and some friends of his. While with them he constantly alluded to the fact that we’d had sex in front of the others even though it was humiliating for me, and he seemed to get off on doing that. He laughed and dismissed my discomfort.

Another woman about our age was there and Sean wanted to go to a strip club. I was fine with it, but this other woman wasn’t. She didn’t directly voice discomfort, but her body language was clear. Sean dismisses her discomfort and because she was in the car with no way back that meant she was coming too. We ended up having to leave because she didn’t have her ID.

After dropping her off at her home, he drove me to a parking lot and kissed me. I still hadn’t pinpointed the bad feelings as being his manipulation yet. He got me to perform oral by pulling my hair and pulling me down on him and actually called me a slut at this point. At this time mentally I knew I didn’t want to see him again. But I was in his car and at that point, he had the power. I smiled and pretended I was fine until he dropped me off at my car and I went home. I did see him one other time not entirely by choice, but I can’t blame him for that, it was a third party that orchestrated the meet up.

There are many many stories like mine out there. He is extremely active in the convention scene in the east Coast and regularly runs panels and events. He is best known for cosplaying as Guy Fieri and Giovanni from Pokémon. He is known for grooming underage girls, and boundary stomping. He has autism and blames that on his behavior, which is bullshit. He knows better, just chooses not to. He is a predator, plain and simple. He was fired from his last job because of lewd comments and sexual harassment.

This post keeps crossing my dash and the notes are annoying me because they fundamentally misunderstand what a cryptocurrency is. Cryptocurrencies are “crypto” because their total supply is tied to an arbitrary limited value (for BitCoin, ‘mining’ solutions to an algorithm) which is not backed by a government. They are ‘currencies’ because they can act as a store of value and a medium of trade (they count as an asset if you hold them, against which you can borrow other currency, and can be directly exchanged for goods and services).

On the other hand, all real currency is valuable, fundamentally, because you can use it to pay your taxes. That’s why it acts as a store of value and can be used as a medium of trade. It is issued by and returns to governments. Governments used to have to keep a certain amount of gold (literally!) on hand as backing for their currencies, but we stopped doing that in the mid-20th century because there is only so much gold on the planet. (People who like cryptocurrency often feel that this was a mistake.) But note that cryptocurrencies are still primarily considered valuable if they can be traded for as large an amount as possible of hard (government-backed) currency. That’s how they gain their power to purchase things. They don’t really - yet - have value separate from that. 

Therefore 1) indulgences can’t be a cryptocurrency because they were used neither as a store of value or a medium of trade and 2) probably the closest thing to a cryptocurrency that existed in the early modern era (though not the Middle Ages) was, I will submit, tulip bulbs. 

i was with my mother’s family and they were talking to me about my religious studies major. my great aunt asked me what the definition of hell was, and i responded “well i suppose it depends on who you ask.” and nearly all the protestants in the group decided that hell was “the absence of god” which i suppose is a fair answer, albeit not a universal one. my cousin’s wife was playing with her 3-year-old daughter and she says “well mommy says that hell is a mcdonald’s playplace” asdfghjhgfd

this 3-year-old girl is so fucking hilarious. her mothers have signed her up for a toddler yoga class, and so she has adopted a very unique language. this child also has an imaginary friend named “mom” which is, in her mind, the boss of her two mothers. for example, my cousin’s wife explained to me how her daughter got mad at them one time. the little girl situated herself in the corner of her crib, pretended to type on a cell phone and said  “im writing an email to mom right now and telling her how bad you two are. namaste.”

the family’s Big Theory about “Mom” is that both my cousin and her wife are referred to as “Mommy” and “Mama.” The nickname “Mom” is not used in the house because it would just be confusing. However, when interacting with the world, people tell their daughter that they will “tell her mom” if she is doing something wrong. so this child automatically assumes there is this greater “Mom” figure that is responsible for distributing universal justice. 

To be fair to the toddler, that’s pretty much how religions get started.

It makes sense in anglophone toddler-logic language, look:

Mom (syllable of great maternal power)

Mom-ma (mama) (maternal power + diminutive type 1)

Mom-mee (mommy) (maternal power + diminutive type 2)

Grand-mom (or whatever variant is used) (maternal power + modifier to indicate status or age)

These clues do point in child-language to the existence of a “mom.”
