For anyone who missed it, you might make sense is my Emily/Jordan thing ive been threatening to write basically forever. They're such a fun ship but a different kind of challenge because Jordan is so spectacularly underdeveloped as a character. I like it though, more than I think I do, and I actually have a decent amount of chapter two written but sex scenes are like... particularly torturous for me to try and write in the short stretches of free time I have right now. But it definitely will happen!

Yeah I dislike it personally but this is the energy in Glasgow I'd say 😂

The west of Scotland and the south of England are very, very different places in a way I think is genuinely difficult to imagine from across the Atlantic because everything looks so close together over here.

Ohh that's interesting that you noticed that. So actually I have a little bit of secret relationship related trauma and also jealousy related trauma that makes those things just not fun for me.

I can read things where it's like a lighthearted silly plot point but any amount of actual drama related to keeping the relationship a secret... is generally not fun for me. Like even in the part of no such thing where their relationship is definitely a relationship but isn't something everyone knows about, I barely address it at all, and that's because that's just super not enjoyable for me.

So no I almost definitely won't write a secret relationship thing. Sorry!

Hahahahaha okay so I am from the most casual cunt-saying place (Glasgow, where it is not uncommon to hear someone say 'anycunt' for 'anybody') and I hate the word cunt so much. Literally every time I see the phrase "serving cunt" it makes me want to punch a hole in my own face, I have such a visceral reaction to it.

Are you from the UK? I'm not 100% sure because I haven't spent a lot of time in London, but I don't actually think cunt is that casually used in London? (But you might know better than me idk.) I think swearing in general is more normalised in the UK than in the US, so like, comparatively, I guess, she might come back swearier than she went. But I don't think the kind of circles Emily is likely to be hanging out in while living in London are using 'cunt' as casually as the general hanging-around-outside-Glasgow-Central-heckling-passers-by crowd, you know*? I do think outside the extremely specific 'it literally just means person' way it's used by a little subset of people who might be specific to Glasgow and the surrounding areas, 'cunt' does feel aggressive to most people. Like, being called a cunt would always feel like a (gendered) slap in the face. But saying it to herself when she stubs her toe or whatever, I can see it.

I do think Emily is probably somewhat sweary in general though. I don't think I've ever written her in a sex scene where she didn't say the word fuck out loud. The thing about having like... Very Good Social Skills and being good at reading people is you generally know exactly how far you can push things like swearing and dark humour etc in the company you're in, so I think she'd be comfortable doing it in situations where it wouldn't cause a scene lol.

(* Disclaimer: Glasgow is a very friendly place to the point where when I go other places, they feel unfriendly. If I see a tourist looking lost in the city centre I literally will cross the street to ask them what they're looking for and help them find it, because upholding my city's reputation for friendliness is very important to me. But that crowd is there, and as far as casual use of the word cunt goes, they're very much top of the pile.)
