unironically the way origins is structured narratively is kind of genius in how each origin grants the player new means to view the world and story and it’s really a shame that the sequels don’t bother with this approach and I’d probably be willing to argue that this contributes to why the morality systems feel more complex in the first game - because the narrative and mechanics work together to allow the player to approach the same problem from multiple angles with different experiences in mind
#yup yup yup#like my dwarf playthrough was one of my favorites bc with that origin#it really set you up to have a very very different view on things#between your personal stakes in the succession#and then things like#yeah I killed Connor bc why the fuck would this dwarf go do a magic to save this kid#meanwhile I’m replaying dai and trying to make all the different choices I don’t usually make like siding with the Templars and shit#and yet it feels so much less meaningful#nothing actually changes and I’m only making the choices because I the player am choosing to#this doesn’t bug me as much in da2 bc even though you don’t have options you really do feel like you’re playing as an actual character#with an actual background and life and shit#but yeah in inquisition you really don’t have any sort of backstory you’re just. there.#your backstory only appears as fucking war table missions that have no actual emotional backing#oops my entire clan died welp too bad#anyway that’s a lot of#dragon age#thoughts
