Toxic Puritan Work Ethic?
I've been laying in bed with what is likely the flu, periodically feeling guilty for not doing more. Like, I feel guilt that I should work from home, I should clean up around the house, I should tackle a project. Let's call this illness guilt and in your somehow guilty for not doing more despite your illness. Note this is different than being bored or restless, you're also feeling guilt and/or shame.
I've also been doubting whether I'm really that sick and if I'm just blowing this out of proportion (I have a fever of 102.2F/39C.) Let's call it illness imposter syndrome and define it as the sense that your not really ill or ill enough to deserve rest. Both of these should also apply to injury!
It got me to wondering, are we American's significantly different than the rest of the world on this? So...a poll! Please reblog for a bigger sample size! I'm really curious if we're different than the rest of the world on this.
