He lost his family.
Why is it smiling?
Does the bulb on top need changing? Just changed it.

yellow jacket...blue and white stripes....dark jeans...orange head....the Doctor heard he was going to mysteriously disappear in a paradox and said oh I have the PERFECT fit inspo for that!
currently rewatching The Angels Take Manhattan. NOBODY TALK TO ME.
(AMY CALLED HER MELODY. HER BABY GIRL. HER DARLING DAUGHTER. MELODY.)
no but seriously, this scene. Look at him. She calls him a psychopath. And he just stares, doesn’t retract her statement of him, doesn’t even deny her her own definition of herself even. He just watches her. You can almost hear him say it to himself, ‘A psychopath, yes, but mine. Made for me…’ And all his adoration and admiration and love and thankfulness and awe for her is plain to see in the barest of moments. And he waits, and he sees her struggling. Watches her hide the damage. But he believes in her and waits, even waits for her to choose her words and when she does, surging on ahead with the task at hand, he simply shakes his head. Because she’s the strong one. So much of her life has been torn to shreds simply because he exists and here goes some more. But she’s the strong one and this is something she can do. She can hide the damage and charge on with what needs doing. She’s got to get him up, back on his feet and moving toward that horizon. Because she is River Song. She is River Song and she chose to be River Song as she’d never chosen anything else before in her life and this is what River Song does. And he knows that. So he gives her what she needs, his encouragement. His blessing to continue. His affirmation. But he can barely get the smile out and it’s tearing him apart inside. This is the Oncoming Storm we’re talking about here. But to her he’s never been that, to her he’s simply needed her. So she always looks after him first, and she always hides the damage that it causes. But he can always… see her.
tl:dr The Doctor, a study in interrelationship vulnerability. How strong you must be to willingly let yourself be weak, yet have to watch your partner suffer in order for her to feel strong.
The Angels Take Manhattan wasn't up super high in my "I need to rewatch this one instantly" for my tier list but good god it never disappoints. Gave me severe chest pains at multiple points throughout the episode. 11 is a very emotional man and this shows that well. the part of him reading the chapter titles and becoming really stunned and dizzy from it, and then being overwhelmed by emotions that turn from heartbreak and frustration to anger directed at River blows my mind. The switch between him kissing her nicely and then to be absolutely seething is crazy. Not to mention her lying to him about her broken wrist, (which again stirs up a heap of emotions he can't regulate well) and them fighting again over the doctor's misdirected empathy.
also the ending made me want to walk into the sun but if I talk about it I'll cry.
