Web Water: Magical Home Alert

I channeled this from my spider spirit Ester when I moved into a new home and had some... hexing concerns. I needed a way for me to KNOW if I need to refresh wards, etc. Well, luckily my house is old so there were PLENTY of cobwebs to use and what better to use as a trip wire than unbreakable spider silk!

Use: warding, protection

Channeled from: Lamiya, Ester

Components:

  • Cobwebs
  • Dead Spiders (optional, adds strength)
  • Saltwater
  • Bottle
  • Sigil Powder (optional)
  1. Collect cobwebs and dead spiders from around the house. If they are super dusty, put them in a ziploc bag or tupperware with some water and soap. Shake and then pour the water out.
  2. Put webs in bottle with salt water for 3 days in the sun, shaking every few hours.
  3. Take out big web chunks, water should have traces of web in them. Spider bits can be added now or put around the property.
  4. Pray over the water and ask the spiders to use their webs to alert you to any trespasses via agreed upon alert such as spiders coming from the ceiling. Ask the spider spirits to trap and eat the bad energy they find.

Pour around the edge of the property and anoint the members of the household you want to be included in the ward.  Should see pink/purple webs outside the house* *This is UPG. After I did this the first time I noticed lots of webs around the yard that turned pink in the sunlight.

Under Cover of Night

A Charm for Safe Travel at Night

By Rainy-Day-Witchcraft

Materials:

  • Small bottle or bag
  • Basil
  • Blackberry
  • Thorns or brambles
  • Blue Goldstone
  • Sea salt

Charm Construction

✰ Step 1. The night before spell preparation, leave the blue goldstone outside or in a window; somewhere it will be in moonlight. This both charges the stone and fills it with the properties to cover and protect you during the night.

✰ Step 2. The next day, fill a small bag or bottle with basil, blackberry leaves and/or seeds, any type of thorns or bits of bramble branch (be sure these are small enough to fit in the container), sea salt, and the charged blue goldstone ~ which looks like the night sky (adding to the spell theme!) and possesses protective properties.

✰ Step 3. Once everything is in the container, seal it however you see fit ~ If it’s a bottle you can drop wax onto the top, glue it shut, etc. If you used a small bag, you can tie it with a string or ribbon with a color that matches your intent (black would work well), or make it a drawstring bag if you’d like the option to open and close. As you seal your charm, recite the following (or write your own chant in it’s place) as you visualize your intent:

“Under cover of night

Stars light guiding my plight,

I am protected Against danger,

Against negativity or ill-will,

Against all harm

As with me,

I possess this charm

Protecting me physically and magickally,

I will arrive safe at my destination"

Any time you feel it needs re-charging or if you’d like to give the charm another boost of energy to work with, say this (or your own) chant each night you carry the charm while you travel home while holding it tightly in hand. Let me know if you have any questions or comments!

Spell of Self Empowerment

Pendent/Spell Jar

So you know that one saying girls are made of sugar, spice, and everything nice? Well, ever since I could walk my mother told me I was purely spice.

This spell is a twist on this thought, even though any gender could use it. Below is a recipe for a spell jar to wear around your neck at times you feel you need courage, protection, or self-esteem. As always, feel free to tweak this recipe anyway you’d like.

-The Recipe-

Ingredients

- Black Salt - For absorbing negative energies, moodiness, and anger

- Cayenne - Strength, empowerment, and protection

- Cloves - Stops gossip, and strong protection from all harm

- Turmeric - Strength, and banishing harmful energies

- Vanilla - Self-love, vitality

- Red Candle - Strength, passion, courage

- A little bottle (One small enough to make into a necklace

- Paper with you intent on it

- A string

Directions

Take a mini jar and fill it with the ingredients listed above, write what you wish to accomplish with this spell and put it in the jar. Seal it with red candle wax and let it sit overnight in direct moon light. Attach your string to the jar. Now you have a cute little pendent! You can add a charm or your birth stone.

Much love, ♥ Angelica ♥

Personal Protection: Surviving the Holidays

I'm of the opinion that far too many people around this time of year are fucking around, and it's high time they get to the finding out part. With major holidays right around the corner, many of us will be facing relatives we'd rather not see, parties we'd rather not go to, and conversations we'd rather avoid or exit as soon as possible. Political spats, unwanted opinions, snide remarks -- I believe that what you give out, you ought to receive back.

So, obviously, let's do some magic about it.

There are three main components to my method:

  1. The Bubble;
  2. The Quills; and
  3. The Shake

The Bubble

Exactly what it sounds like, "the bubble" is the outermost layer of protection around you. It's the barrier between you and the unpleasantness you're trying to keep out.

The bubble can be one item carried or worn (such as a hat, crystal, or charm), or it can be multiple. I usually spring for two items, one to absorb/recycle and one to bounce/return to sender.

Absorb:

I've got a relative who is, at their essence, a fucking downer. That would be fine if not for the fact that if they're having a bad time or are mildly uncomfortable, it's about to be everyone's problem. This kind of negativity is something to absorb, not bounce. Sending it back would only double their misery, and that's no good for anyone.

So, instead, I have a special charm that I make for occasions when I know they're going to be around. It consists of a little piece of sponge that's sat in salt for a while atop a transformative sigil. The sponge, once fully charged and ready, will absorb the negative energy and recycle it into more positive feelings.

This means that their negativity won't impact me at all, and I actively improve the atmosphere. Their bad attitude can't do anything if everyone around us is only getting good vibes. The charm is powered by the exchange of negative to positive energy, so it requires no charging. However, it's smart to discard the sponge once it's done its job.

Bounce:

But sometimes, somebody's got to face real consequences. There are some things I don't want to deal with at all. Like gross political opinions from my conservative, religious family members. Or questions about having children.

The idea of the bounce is to reflect things before they reach me. It's a sort of glamor spell that projects an aura of "don't bother." It essentially lets me be passed over for conversations I want to leave or avoid entirely by bouncing attention away from me.

Negative energy, bad vibes, whatever you want to call it -- the goal is to return it to where it's coming from. Someone who's being an asshole will feel like an asshole. If it works right, they'll stop talking altogether because they're so irritated with what they're saying. I've had aggressive, vocal relatives go completely silent because they were receiving their own rancid energy back to themselves instead of the attention they were hoping for.

For me, this spell takes the form of a charm on my keys. It's a form of an evil eye charm -- not the blue-eyed stare you most likely think of, but another symbol meant to distract attention from me to it. It's a little pewter casting of the fig sign, an old and obscene gesture. It works on malevolent spirits best, but it does a great job of repelling unfortunate people, too. It bounces their nonsense back to themselves, often causing confusion, which forces them to reconsider what they're saying.

Again, this lives on my keys, which live in a key bowl when they're not clipped to my pocket or belt loop. The key bowl has a multi-purpose charging setup for the keys, my wallet, and other assorted charms I might wear when I go out.

The Quills

Sometimes, things get past our main line of defenses. That's fine, it happens. But under these circumstances, it happens because someone has deliberately crossed a line. So now, they get the quills.

When I say "the quills," you should be picturing something like a porcupine. Adorable, yes, but fuck with it at your own risk. Those quills aren't just for show, and neither should yours be. This is your second line of defense, and it's where we turn to offense.

Accordingly, the quills aren't passive spells like the bubble. These require conscious activation and direction to give you maximum control over their output. You can make your quills passive, but I often find that baneful workings work best when you're specifically choosing to use them.

Yes, baneful, and let me be perfectly clear: The goal is to harm whoever's crossed the line. You're not just returning to sender. You're catching what they've thrown at you, lighting it on fire, and pitching it back at full force.

To that end, there are two approaches I typically take (and are you sensing a pattern? I like to do things in twos). One spell to sharpen the tongue and give as good as I've gotten, and one to induce the smallest of lingering curses on the target.

Sharpen

The whole point of the quills is to make yourself an inconvenient, difficult target. Part of being difficult to swallow is not going down easily. Often, the answer is to avoid the conversation or problem altogether, but it isn't always possible. Or satisfying.

Sometimes, you gotta take a bitch down.

For me, this charm needs to do two things. It should boost my confidence in standing my ground and add some oomph to my argument. I have a pin with a particular design on it charmed for this purpose. The needle operates as the quill for stabbing (the oomph), and the design provides the confidence. Anointed with my Fuck Off Oil and laid in a dish of salt, garlic, and red chili flakes, the pin becomes extra spicy and effective.

This one has to be recharged each time it's used. It always lives on the same jacket, but I'll anoint it regularly to keep it fresh. If I use the charm on someone, I'll take the pin off at the end of the night and set it in the spicy salt mixture.

Linger

By far one of the most effective methods for reducing nonsense from unpleasant people I interact with regularly is lingering consequences. When someone associates bad luck with interacting with you, even on a subconscious level, they tend to avoid you.

Consider this the "slow poison" on the quills. The goal isn't to ruin their life by any means (although, I suppose you could...). It's just to make yourself unpalatable on an instinctive level. Think of how poisonous frogs are brightly colored to display that they're, you know, deadly. That's what we're doing here.

I prefer to use something kind of dangerous. Something you can hold onto and point with is best, in my experience. I've used a broken piece of glass, a rusty nail or screw, and various thorns. Right now, I'm using one half of a rusty pair of old cooking shears. The handle broke, but the blades are still sharp as hell. Waste not, and all that.

Anoint whatever the sharp, dangerous thing is in an oil infused with herbs and spices of your choice (again, the Fuck Off Oil is a good example). Or, if you prefer, coat it in something like hot sauce, urine, rust, or other corrosive and unpleasant things. Once prepared, stow it in your bag. Or your glove box, if you drive, since this makes a nice on-the-go curse to cast at shitty drivers.

You don't need to pull it out for it to work, but if you can get to a safe, secluded space (like a bathroom), it can help you focus. When you're creating it, you should set up an activation word, phrase, or motion. I prefer a motion -- something like tapping wherever the object is, a swirling movement with my hand, and then pointing at the target.

The curse you place is up to you. I tend to go for something like feeling nauseous or getting a headache. The spell should draw a connection between them being nasty to you and the unpleasant feeling, whether overt or subconscious. They'll be more cautious and reluctant to be a dick to you afterwards.

The Shake

Like a dog. Get that shit off of yourself.

No matter how thorough you are, there are always gaps and particularly stubborn people getting into them. Something they say just sticks to you like a burr, sharp and irritating. Or depressing, maybe.

The idea behind the shake is literal. You're forcibly removing the heavy weight or annoying itch someone else has placed on you. The shake isn't necessarily an item like with the bubble and quills. It can be, but it doesn't have to be.

Essentially, the steps to the shake are:

  1. Identify what feels bad
  2. Shake that shit
  3. Resume normal activities

Maybe it's the neurodivergent in me, but physical movement is incredibly soothing. Self-regulation tactics are essential for survival. Transforming that into a little spell ritual at the same time is just two birds with one stone.

When things get overwhelming or I can feel my bubble failing to keep everything out at once (such as if a fight breaks out or someone decides to go in depth about one of my triggers), I remove myself from the situation. That's the first step. Retreat to a safe place, whether that's outside, in my car, in the bathroom, or elsewhere that's quiet. The second step is to figure out where in my body the anxiety or bad feeling is sitting. Often, it's in my shoulders and hands, but sometimes it's elsewhere.

Step three is to fucking shake. Shake those hands, roll my shoulders, jump up and down. Whatever it takes. As I do, I'm forcibly dislodging everything unpleasant out of myself and into the open air. And because I've got the negativity-absorbing bubble, it'll take the bad feeling and repurpose it into something more positive. Then, once I'm better, I can go back.

Again, you don't need an object for this, but you can certainly create one. Options would be comforting items, fidget toys, or even something like a joint. Sometimes, you just gotta blow smoke about it. You know?

Fun fact, though: You could also carry a vessel to contain the Bad Feelings for later use instead of letting your bubble absorb them. This comes in handy for people who are particularly abusive... as an example of what you want them to experience under the force of a more involved cursing.

Dragonfire Protection Powder

This blend of herbs brings the strength of fire to protect you and your space, and is super versatile! Below is the list of herbs I used, but for broke witches or closeted witches, feel free to substitute or forgo any ingredients you may not have access to.

  • Basil (protection, peacemaking, fire element)
  • Black pepper (protection, banishment, fire element)
  • Black salt [or any sea salt] (protection, absorbs negativity)
  • Cayenne pepper (protection, fire element)
  • Chili powder (heightens spell power, protection)
  • Cinnamon (peace, prosperity, fire element)
  • Clove (protection, banishment, fire element)

Mix all the ingredients you use in a container of sorts. I used a jar, but you can also use ziplock bags or other such things. I find it useful to have a specific intent in mind while you add and mix. Something like “protect me and my space from harmful intruders” or “keep harmful or malevolent spirits and entities away from me”. Whatever floats your boat.

There are different ways you can use this powder. You can sprinkle it around the edge of your property or the outside of your home, or you could keep it in a jar or sachet inside. If you choose to use it as a jar or sachet spell, you can add any of these optional ingredients:

  • Thorns (adds protection and punishment)
  • Nails or screws (adds protection and punishment)
  • Clear quartz (amplifies the strength of the spell)
  • Black tourmaline (strong protection)

….or whatever else you think is helpful! If you add sharp objects like thorns and nails, please be careful not to hurt yourself.

And with that, your protection powder is ready to use!

The Wall of Thorns - A Spell of Protection

Then round that place there grew a hedge of thorns thicker every year, until at last the whole castle was hidden from view, and nothing of it could be seen but the vane on the roof. […] From time to time many Kings’ sons came and tried to force their way through the hedge; but it was impossible for them to do so, for the thorns held fast together like strong hands, and the young men were caught by them, and not being able to get free, there died a lamentable death.

- The Sleeping Beauty

Intent: To protect one’s home and property.

Ideal Timing: Full Moon, but can be made anytime.

Materials:

  • Glass Jar with Lid
  • Black Taper Candle
  • Planter Pot & Soil
  • Super Glue
  • Pins & Thorns
  • Duct Tape
  • Herbs: Dill, Basil, Salt, Vinegar, Lemon or Pickle Juice

Load the bottle with the pins, herbs, and just enough of your chosen liquid to fill it about ¾ full. It should be noted that some witches prefer to use urine for their home protection bottles, both for traditional and territorial reasons. This is certainly a viable choice if you are comfortable with it, but if not, then the options listed above will be quite effective.

Seal the top and secure with a strip of duct tape or electrical tape to prevent leaks. Once it is sealed well, begin to attach the flat ends of the thorns to the outside of the bottle using the superglue so that the points face outward. Be very careful not to stick yourself while handling the bottle!

Once all the thorns are in place, light the black candle and drip the wax over the top of the bottle. As the wax falls, hold the image of a thorny protective barrier in your mind and continue to turn the bottle, letting the wax spill down the sides to help hold the thorns in place. Keep dripping the wax until the cap is completely covered and all the thorns have been secured.

Pour some dirt into the planter pot, place the bottle inside, and pour in more dirt until the bottle is covered. Keep the pot somewhere on your property. You can even grow flowers in it, if you like, but it is not recommended that you use it for anything edible.

If you move to a new home, be sure to take the pot with you, or dig up the bottle and take it along; to remove the ward, break the wax seal and empty the contents of the bottle somewhere safe.

Making a Protective Shield With Death Energy from the Earth

One of the strongest energies I work with is that of death. It can be intimidating to outside forces, malevolent or otherwise, and I tend to use it sparingly in protection because of it’s all encompassing scare factor. I don’t want to scare away good things, and certainly don’t want to draw any bad things in. However, death isn’t always scary. Sometimes it’s a guardian force, as is the energy of cemeteries. There is a certain respect associated with death, and thus is what I pull from to make a shield from it.

This is a visualization I created as well as my directions for energy work and chants. You can switch things up if you like, this is just what I do.

What you’ll need:
  • A spot of ground, preferably inside your home somewhere, that has the Earth directly under it. This makes the energy work simpler, in my experience
  1. Kneel or sit with your palms pressed into the floor. Take a few breaths and begin to visualize the energy beneath you stirring around and coming to meet your fingers.
  2. Allow your energy to flow freely out into the Earth, and the Earth’s energy to go into you. There’s an exchange here and an important part of being able to use the energy, as you’ll be more connected to it.
  3. Feel around in the energy below you and search for bones, fossils, undisturbed caves filled with fallen animals. Don’t wake any spirits if you feel them, just call to the energy of somber respect and invite it into your sculpting hands.
  4. Once you’ve called this energy and gathered a fair amount of it, slowly raise your hands into a palms up position. Look ahead, not down anymore, to show this energy you are above the surface, not below it.
  5. I use a wand for this step, but you can use your hand or fingers for it just as well. I draw the sigil I use to represent my own home in the air and say:

Earthen bays shall now release

Somber eyed and kindly beasts.

Guided up like brick and stone,

I summon thee, and thee alone.

Wrap around in sharpened spires,

Ivy cages and guarded fires.

Protect my home like the blessed dead,

From malice and spite and tidings of dread;

Cater to love, invite my warm friends,

Review all that passes except what I send.

Here I sit with you, hands facing thee.

This is my will, so it shall be.

  1. After the chant, Invision a smoky wall of grey coming up and around you home, starting from a point underneath of it. When a sphere of some kind is formed, attach it to an energy source to provide a constant recharging base. I like the sun, moon, inner core of the Earth, and the ocean if you’re nearby it.
  2. Close off the ritual by flipping your hands back over and onto the ground. Send a sealing energy into the ground and stand up to end everything.

Yule Protection / Good Luck Charm

For this one, I placed the following items in a sachet:

- sprigs of rosemary, lavender, sage, and a berry from a holly tree (all from my garden)

- clementine peel

- evil eye bead (given by a friend)

- a purpose-made sigil

- a sprinkle of ash from last year's first-burnt Yule log

I then said a spell and sealed the sachet.

An Idea for a Protective-Offensive Ward

Knives are a martial and potent form of the normally used Scissors. Whereas scissors are used for protection, healing and cutting away, knives are able to cause harm and act as a much more aggressive form of protection. This is where this ritual comes in mind:

I would say that the knife would be a major aspect of this ritual. I would save and buy a new knife on a Tuesday (the day of Mars). The knife can then be placed on a piece of red or black fabric, with items such as garlic, red peppers, protective herbs, powders, oils and sigils. The Knife can be rubbed down with protective oils and a chant such as the following be said:

All you who act against me, seek my harm, you who raise your hands to harm me, your tongue to speak against me, your thoughts to harm me, those who attempt in any way to bring harm, disaster or pain to me shall be cut, thou shall be cut once, twice, thrice, pepper in your wounds, your eyes, your mouth, always burn, salt in your eyes, burn. Your evil will be yours to bear, yours to feel, your undoing.

The knife could then be sealed in the red cloth with the items and buried under the front door, or it could be placed in a pot of soil by the front door. It can then be given offerings to keep the spirit strong and dedicated.

Home Protection Steam Spell

There was some crime activity in my neighborhood, so I performed this to make me feel safe and protected. ❤️ (As a witchling, I am still new to spell writing, and am open to tips!

 Ingredients

⚔️ Cinnamon: I use three sticks and a tablespoon of ground cinnamon for extra scent.  ⚔️ Rosemary: Three sprigs or two tablespoons of dried rosemary (pictured). ⚔️ Pine: Three sprigs from my backyard tree.  ⚔️ Sigil: I drew @wolf-scent’s home protection sigil on a bay leaf and used the steam to activate. I dry and keep the leaf on my altar after. 🌿

 Method

✨ Put water in a pot or pan and on the stove and turn heat on high.

✨Add ingredients one at a time, focusing on intent with each one.

✨Let mixture come to a boil and begin to steam. I add my leaf at this time.

✨Visualize the steam spreading throughout the house, bringing protection. Can be a bubble or anything else - personally, I visualized the army of the dead from the Lord of the Rings rushing out to stand guard. ;)

✨LOWER the heat (don’t want to waste energy) to simmer, and you can allow the scent to fill your house for however long you wish. Add water as needed to not let the ingredients touch bottom of pot.
