Just because a spell doesn't seem to manifest exactly how you wanted doesn't mean that nothing happened.

A spell could have:

  • Resolved blockages or entanglements behind the scenes
  • Paved the way to make accomplishing your goal more likely
  • Patched over energetic "leaks" in adjacent areas that had to be fixed before this manifestation would work
  • Prevented the situation from worsening

It is possible for an effective spell to not appear to have done much at all.

This could also hypothetically mean that you really do have to cast the same spell three or four times before enough underlying issues are resolved to get you what you want.

I do not think all magic necessarily works like this.

But I do think that sometimes, witches underestimate the amount of times they need to engage with magical reality in order to affect real change in the world around them.

This witch is pro science, pro modern medicine, pro technology, while believing in herbalism, traditional medicine, and alternative healing.

FDA approved first, everything else supplemental, mundane before magic.

Unless you're purposefully, actively, specifically summoning a demon, the chances of you summoning a demon are slim to none. Remember this, my doves.

You have a higher chance of accidentally summoning me with a cup of pumpkin spice latte as you're leaving Starbucks.

Things That Might Summon Demons And Spirits Into Your Home:

  • Literally summoning demons and spirits into your home

This has been a Public Service Announcement.

And just a few clarifications for folks who don’t know:

- The hype surrounding “The Exorcist” (1972) is exactly that. The reports of accidents and supernatural happenings on set was part of their ad campaign. The only ritual being performed in the movie is the rite of exorcism. That’s not going to SUMMON anything, I promise you.

- The horror movie rule which states “Never Read Books Of Demon Summoning Aloud” is a good one, but it must also be remembered that most ancient spell tomes mentioned or used in horror media are entirely fictional. Including the fabled Necronomicon.

- It is very important to keep in mind that the facts in many of the so-called landmark cases in paranormal study have been greatly embellished, either by the investigators or by writers and movie producers looking to make a buck. Nearly all the stories of “real” hauntings you see in popular media have been exaggerated to hell and back. If the Warrens had anything to do with it, you can bet good money that the actual happenings bear little resemblance to the stories we associate with those cases now.

- While it is possible for spirits to attach themselves to objects, therefore necessitating some basic caution and cleansing if you’re prone to collecting antiques or yard sale fodder, there is no guarantee that something is going to attach itself to your belongings unless you INVITE IT TO DO SO. (Someone cited the Annabelle case. If we believe the story, the ghost did not come with the doll, it was invited to possess it by the owners. Allegedly. See above note about the Warrens.)

- Swearing does not count as baneful magic. It’s CALLED cursing, sure, but if you stub your toe and yell, “FUCK!” you’re not wishing harm on someone. You’re upset and in pain. (Then again, I do like that meme about a witch cursing a house in this fashion….)

- Most pagan holidays are celebrations for some part of the harvest cycle. Holiday observances are not automatically magic rituals, and neither do they summon spirits unless you are openly calling them to the feast. I am not calling in the ghosties by thanking the earth for this beautiful bucket of tomatoes and watering a tree.

- Just because something CAN be part of a spell or ritual doesn’t mean it’s ALWAYS part of a spell or ritual. We don’t accidentally cast spells by dancing or singing or thinking or sneezing. Intention and focus are part of the process for a reason.

while i’m sure it’s certainly cool to be chosen by a deity for worship/devotion, i think there’s something beautiful about choosing them instead. having little to no signs from a deity, but seeing them and saying “yes. yes. yes. you are the one i want to devote myself to. work on myself for. be a part of your life as you are mine.” as a practitioner and then setting forth. i personally feel like we don’t have many options in life, so it’s nice to be the one to decide.

To piggyback: Consider also that a deity might be just as jazzed about being chosen by you. I imagine it's similar to how we get when we're chosen by kitties and puppies.

Web Water: Magical Home Alert

I channeled this from my spider spirit Ester when I moved into a new home and had some... hexing concerns. I needed a way for me to KNOW if I need to refresh wards, etc. Well, luckily my house is old so there were PLENTY of cobwebs to use and what better to use as a trip wire than unbreakable spider silk!

Use: warding, protection

Channeled from: Lamiya, Ester

Components:

  • Cobwebs
  • Dead Spiders (optional, adds strength)
  • Saltwater
  • Bottle
  • Sigil Powder (optional)
  1. Collect cobwebs and dead spiders from around the house. If they are super dusty, put them in a ziploc bag or tupperware with some water and soap. Shake and then pour the water out.
  2. Put webs in bottle with salt water for 3 days in the sun, shaking every few hours.
  3. Take out big web chunks, water should have traces of web in them. Spider bits can be added now or put around the property.
  4. Pray over the water and ask the spiders to use their webs to alert you to any trespasses via agreed upon alert such as spiders coming from the ceiling. Ask the spider spirits to trap and eat the bad energy they find.

Pour around the edge of the property and anoint the members of the household you want to be included in the ward.  Should see pink/purple webs outside the house* *This is UPG. After I did this the first time I noticed lots of webs around the yard that turned pink in the sunlight.
